    The Bathhouse

In among the original hills of Rome, The Bathhouse is completely surrounded by history. On one side, the Nero’s infamous palace – the Domus Aurea – and on the other, the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums. Its position alone would sell, but the flat itself is not underwhelming. It has lovely views, and the kitchen is pretty big for a place of its size. There’s an antique desk in the corner, which although not making as much sense as a breakfast table, is far prettier. *There's a double sofa bed and a single futon in the living room, but three would be too many for the space*There's a restaurant directly below the apartment so it sometimes gets a bit noisy*The shower only reaches a height of 180cm Air ConditioningBalconyBlack-Out BlindsBuzzer / Wireless IntercomCentral HeatingChild FriendlyCoffee MakerCooking EssentialsCot / CribDishwasherElectricity AdaptorsExtra Pillows and BlanketsFire ExtinguisherFirst Aid KitFreezerFridgeHair Dryer...More Details

    Shortbread

The classical design of Shortbread, with the columns and arches, might not be to everyone’s taste, but you can’t deny that it takes the theme and runs with it. If you are keen on the style, then you end up with a great-value flat, in one of the most beautiful areas of the city. The Tiber is less than a hundred metres away, while the actual street it’s on is a quiet dead-end, so you don’t need to worry about about hordes of tourists outside your front door. *There isn't a lot of natural light in some parts of the house – the living room in particular doesn't have a window*Two guests will be on a sofa bed in the living room*The wifi signal is not very strong, especially in the kitchen Air ConditioningBathtubBlack-Out BlindsBuzzer / Wireless IntercomFreezerHair DryerIronMicrowaveMultiple Sets of KeysRain ShowerTVWi-fi...More Details

    Grandezza Romana

There’s no better way to embrace the history of Rome than to stay in a former 17th-century palace. This apartment’s building embraces the spirit of the “grandezza romana” with its ornate doorway just next to a local pizzeria and marble statues in the ancient stairwell. Stepping into the apartment itself you’re met with grand, high ceilings and a traditional parquet floor. Old double doors let the space flow from the living room, to the dining room and a bijou little kitchen. You’re in a prime location here too. Apart from the buzzing pizzeria literally on your doorstep, there is myriad local trattoria serving up plates of carbonara and tiramisu in the historic streets around you. It’s a seven-minute stroll to Piazza di Spanga (where the Spanish Steps are) and the Trevi Fountain is one minute's walk away, showing just how central this apartment is. *The kitchen is sunny but rather compact, but there are plenty of restaurants on your doo...More Details

    Left Unspoken

Clean and minimalist are often used as euphemisms for uninspirational and bland – a safe choice that won’t offend but won’t excite either. However, your host Luca has managed the not insignificant task of creating a simple, calm interior that still manages to evoke emotion. It’s also practical – with two bathrooms, it feels like the sofa bed is a feasible option rather than thrown in to inflate the guest count. The location is a twenty-minute walk from the Vatican and convenient for exploring further afield on the metro, with the likes of the Colosseum within a twenty-five-minute journey. With elegant buildings, neatly designed streets, and residential charisma, Prati mixes the charm of classic Rome with the pace of a bustling business district. *Two people can sleep on a sofa bed in the living room* Child-friendly amenities such as a cot, baby bath and highchair are available upon request*There's a short flight of steps before you rea...More Details

Adjacent to the Vatican City, you’ll be perfectly placed to enjoy a stroll through picturesque, pedestrianised streets, before marvelling at the scale and majesty of Saint Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. Return via the Passetto Papale (a view of which can be seen from your home’s terrace), a semi-secret passageway connecting the Vatican to the mighty Castel Sant Angelo — commissioned by Hadrian...More Details

    Cinquecento

Upon arriving at this home, it immediately becomes clear that it's a little bit special. Not only is it in the perfect position for getting around the sights, but the approach itself is wonderfully Roman. Cobbled streets, cloisters, and courtyards all make an appearance. The iconic Colosseum and Roman Forum are both just under a ten-minute walk away. It's around the same distance to Piazza Venezia, while the beautiful Trevi Fountain is fifteen minutes on foot. Or immerse yourself in the local culture at Mercato Rionale Monti (a one minute stroll), and pick up some fresh produce to take home.Back in this apartment, whip up a carbonara with some ingredients from the market in the kitchen if you don't fancy eating out. This home has an elegant neutral colour scheme enlivened by pretty artwork – we especially love the cute vintage Fiat 500 painting. The symmetry of Castor is almost absolute. The two bedrooms are pretty much identical (except for the bedside lamps) and revolve around the central kitchen. Character perhaps wasn’t at the top of the agenda when the place was designed, but it’s very comfortable and the bathrooms are both very big for Rome. There’s also the bonus of no squabbling over who gets which room – they’re as good as each other. *There isn't a washing machine or an oven*The communal area is quite small, and there's no communal TV*Guests 5 and 6 will be on single sofa beds, one in each bedroom Air ConditioningBuzzer / Wireless IntercomCentral HeatingHair DryerLuxury BeddingMicrowaveMultiple Sets of KeysPets AllowedRain ShowerUmbrellasWelcome HamperWi-fi...More Details

    A Pile of Crowns

If you're planning a trip to Rome but are not so keen on the traditional homes that make up a lot of the options, we would point you in the direction of this contemporary apartment.Against an effortlessly cool backdrop of stark white walls and tiled flooring, much of the interior design embraces industrial-chic trends, from the bare lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling and the chalkboard on the kitchen wall to the bright yellow stools at the kitchen surface. We're also big fans of the Basquiat artworks and the sleek bathroom. In keeping with this stylish interior, the home sits on the trendier side of the Tiber in the neighbourhood of Trastevere, full of fashionable trattorias and photogenic alleyways. If you fancy giving in to your inner tourist at any point, many of the big-hitters aren't far away. Both Piazza Navona and the Pantheon can be seen in twenty minutes' walk, while Castel Sant'Angelo takes just over a quarter of an hour on fo...More Details

Any discussion of Savannah has to start with the roof terrace, a little rectangle of serenity nestled in the rooftops of Trastevere. There is furniture up there and even a canopy, so you can relax while hiding from the midday sun. The interior is simple but charming, with a working fireplace in the living room - perfect for those cosy winter nights. The bathroom is a little basic - especially if it’s being shared by four - and it’s worth noting that there is no lift in the building, but otherwise Savannah is a lovely base in Rome's most bohemian neighbourhood. *Get ready for some climbing - there's no lift and the apartment's on the second floor*The stairs to the terrace is quite narrow with a low ceiling*If the apartment receives all four guests, they'll have to share one bathroom Air ConditioningBalconyBlack-Out BlindsBuzzer / Wireless IntercomCarbon Monoxide DetectorCentral HeatingChild FriendlyCoffee MakerCooking EssentialsCot / C...More Details

Paquino is perfectly comfortable, and while it lacks a bit of flair in the design department, it’s pleasant to look at. None of this really matters though, because the big thing going for it is the position, right in the heart of Monti. There are loads of excellent restaurants around (although the kitchen is actually pretty good, easily enough for a decent meal) and you really are in the cobbled streets among the ancient ruins that define the city. *You'll have to climb the stairs to the first floor – the building doesn't have . a lift.*There's no washing machine in this home – it's just outside this home.*We found a few stains on the walls, particularly in the bathroom.*This home is located within an apartment building, with a shared entrance. The Silver Dove

Situated on the famous street Via Merulana in the San Giovanni district, this is an excellently located home in a lively bourgeois area with good transport links to the rest of the city. The rooms are large and bright, all recently renovated with minimal modern design. The style of the home is more industrial than cosy thanks to the steel kitchen, prevalence of clean lines and minimal contemporary lighting, but that doesn’t compromise the comfort of the home. We did notice that the WiFi was notably slow, however, which might pose a problem for some guests. * The lift up to the apartment is old and a bit cramped* As it's on a busy street, there is a certain level of outside noise in the home* The Wifi is weak Air ConditioningBaby BathBalconyBathtubCentral HeatingChild FriendlyCoffee MakerCooking EssentialsCot / CribDishwasherExtra Pillows and BlanketsFridgeHair DryerHigh ChairIronIroning BoardKitchenKitchen UtensilsLaptop Friendly Work...More Details

    An Emperor's View

From the cute, wrought-iron balcony of this central Rome apartment, you’ve got a view of the Colosseum beyond the shambling old rooftops. A few minutes’ strolling takes you to the ancient walls of Rome’s most famous sight, and the streets around the apartment are filled with local trattoria, cafes, bars and supermarkets to stock up on supplies. The balcony is furnished with a bistro set for two – perfect for a morning coffee or evening tipple as the sun sets over the rooftops of historic Rome. If you’re not exploring the gelato shops and pizzerias of your neighbourhood, perhaps cook something in the sunlight-filled kitchen. Its wood accents, pristine white walls and array of pot plants give a relaxed, boho feel. The bright blue and sunshine-yellow feature walls in the living room and bedroom add a touch of fun and traditional, tall windows in both rooms let the natural light pour in. *At capacity, two guests will be on the sofa bed in t...More Details

    Gladiator Sun

While the bold colours in Gladiator Sun won’t appeal to everyone, we really like it, and it has lots going for it beyond the design. It’s right by the Colosseum, and the host, Mary, also pushes the boat out when it comes to service. It’ll be really good for people who are after a slightly more hotel-like experience. There’s a daily cleaning service and someone at reception until 11pm, as well as free laundry, great breakfast options, and recommendations of all the places tourists don’t know about. *The living has two single futons in it, rather than sofas*When we visited, the lift was down and there were ninety steps to the front door*Currently, the internet is limited to 1GB per day*There's no dishwasher*Guests 3 and 4 will be sleeping on the futons in the living room Air ConditioningBathtubBlack-Out BlindsBreakfast IncludedBuzzer / Wireless IntercomCarbon Monoxide DetectorCentral HeatingCoffee MakerCooking EssentialsCot / CribDryerE...More Details

Built in the 19th century and touched with modern comforts, this quaint home is authentic Roman design at its very best. Exposed brick walls and wood ceilings lace the home with a homespun vibe that makes you feel instantly at home.Continuing the homespun energy, the terracotta floors of the living room and kitchen support rustic furniture and unique artwork. The dining table facing a huge painting is the highlight, creating a cosy setting to share pasta and tiramisu. The entire interior is soaked in charm and character, yet the idyllic outdoor space is probably where you'll spend your time. Lazy mornings and carefree afternoons are made to be spent in the pristine swimming pool, encompassed by lush greenery. Lay down on the sun beds, drenched in the rays of the sun, breaking up the hours with refreshing dips in the water. All that swimming can work up an appetite, which is where you'll head to the BBQ area for sizzling food under the r...More Details

    The Modern Roman

You'll find this modern apartment just a short walk from the Spanish Steps. As far as sightseeing goes, this is the place to be – pretty much all of Rome is within easy reach, whether exploring on foot or hopping on public transit. Back home, the two bedrooms offer luxe en-suites – one with a freestanding bath, the other with a roomy light-up shower. The kitchen lacks a few essentials, but space-wise, it's big enough to rustle up a meal or two. But, seeing as you're in the birthplace of pasta, we suggest sampling the delicious cuisine in the nearby restaurants instead of cooking. *The second bathroom has dual access from the bedroom and the hallway.*There's an elevator in the building to reach this home's entrance on the first floor. However, there are some steps inside the actual apartment.*The wi-fi can be temperamental here. It might be worth bringing a personal hotspot device with you if you know you'll need to access the internet....More Details
