Aperitivo might have a small footprint, but it’s unusual in that it’s a real house, spread over three floors, from the ground to the (magical) roof terrace. It’s been put together with a lot of care – this much is evident – and a lot of the furniture has been cleverly made from repurposed materials, such as the chest of drawers that used to be an old trunk. The small touches really help to elevate Alchemy and give it a sense of character. It’s not the largest space, but the design manages to make the most of what’s available, and there are a few nice features like the Art Deco mirrors. The façade is on the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, which is Rome’s largest square, so it’s very well-placed for the station. Inspired by Joch's Dutch roots, expect to find white-washed wood floors, crisp cream walls and cleanly-designed furniture inside. You'll feel an immediate sense of calm and serenity as you step through the front door, but there's plenty of character, too – think leafy plants, colourful cushions, shelves lined with art books and Joch's photos hanging in the bedroom.
