    Cielo Cavaliere

Housed in a beautiful rose-coloured 19th-century building, this comfortable apartment in Rome’s Spagna neighbourhood puts you in an ideal position to soak up the city’s history. Pared-back and decorated with a contemporary touch, this home offers a comfortable base with many a lovely detail that will help you feel rested and relaxed. We love the glossy marble floors that add a touch of luxe here and the shelves brimming with books that invite gentle reading on the sofa with an espresso or an aperitif in hand. The bedroom’s private balcony gives way to views over the Tiber River, while the sleek bathroom is a treat to wake up to each morning for a refreshing shower or a luxurious bath to end the night. When it comes to sightseeing, you’ve got plenty to see and do within easy walking distance, including Piazza Navona (a nine-minute walk), the Pantheon (a ten-minute walk), Villa Borghese (a twelve-minute walk) and the ever-romantic Trevi...More Details

    Mandragora

Right around the corner from the Piazza del Popolo (and the magical views from the Terrazza del Pincio), just an eighteen-minute stroll to the angelic Trevi Fountain and an even easier ten-minute walk to the historic Spanish Steps – this place has convenience and ease written into its rustic wooden doors. Tastefully renovated and furnished, but without losing any of the charm of the structure, the interior is a picture of old and new. It's not often we mention our admiration for scruff marks, but the knocks on the wooden fittings nod to the history of the flat, and by extension, the city, so we really love them. Plenty of modern comforts have been added to offer everything you need for an effortless stay, from rainfall showers to cafetieres, it's all there. And when you're in search of a calming spot to delve into a good book, the third and fourth bedrooms benefitting from soft floral sofas, ornamental lanterns and plenty of natural lig...More Details

Tastefully decorated with a good balance of rustic features and modern furniture, this apartment offers a quietly impressive base in the heart of the eternal city. The living room mixes exposed brickwork and wooden ceiling beams with contemporary wooden flooring and a huge smart TV, while there's even a four-poster bed in one of the bedrooms for guests to argue over. If you don't win that squabble, don't worry — the other two both have ensuite bathrooms and wall-mounted TVs. The location offers the best of both worlds, too. It's not on the main tourist routes, so still retains an element of authentic Roman character. However, some of the city's must-see sights are within easily walkable distance, too. Castel Sant'Angelo is just a seven-minute walk away and the Pantheon only takes ten. *It's sometimes possible to hear noise from the streets*At full occupancy, the seventh and eighth guests will be on a sofa bed*The building has no parkin...More Details

This apartment in Trieste suits travellers keen to get a taste of authentic Rome. It's not in the city centre, but that doesn't mean the landmarks aren't within easy reach – just hop on the metro and you'll be whisked away to the Colosseum in less than twenty minutes. Pizzerias and restaurants are nearby, or there's a large kitchen if you'd rather rustle up pasta back home. You'll also find two balconies (although they're not in the best condition), a trio of comfortable bedrooms, and a sociable living space where you can relax after sightseeing. For those who don't mind being further away from the hustle and bustle, it's a great option. *If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a travel cot, toys, and children's tableware on request.*The entrance to this apartment building is shared with other guests. Roman Ochre

You'll find this bright apartment in dreamy Monti, surrounded by some of the Eternal City's best. Iconic sights such as the Colosseum and Pantheon are within walking distance. Though the kitchenette is the perfect place to practice newly-acquired pasta-making skills, several restaurants with authentic cuisine are right on your doorstep. The mix of old and new – rustic rafters against a sleeker kitchen – makes it easy on the eyes. We especially like the bedroom mural. Central and charming, it's ideal for a romantic getaway and curious explorers. *Parking in Rome can be tricky, so we recommend sticking to easily accessible public transport where possible. *The bedroom curtains here don't fully block out the sunlight. If you're hoping to enjoy a lie-in, you might want to pack an eye mask. *This home is on the second floor and there might not be a life here. You must be able the steps here. *Given the home's central spot, expect to hear...More Details

    Anise - Liquorice

This minimalist apartment offers a place to retreat above the hubbub below. Anise \u0026 Liquorice has an interesting combination of antiques, contemporary furniture and modern touches, with the clean, white walls tying the design together with understated elegance. We particularly love the parquet wooden flooring and the fun pops of colour seen through the home, but the best feature resides up on the rooftop. You'll have access to the plush lounge area adorned with umbrellas to keep you shaded and stunning views out onto the ancient architecture below. Order a drink and debrief on your day's adventures before freshening up and heading out again for a feast of local Italian cuisine at one of the nearby restaurants of Piazza Navona, just a short five-minute walk away. La Vetreria

Perfect for art-lovers and history-buffs, La Vetreria is a unique hideaway full of lovingly preserved rustic elegance. Set in an old glassworks studio, this loft-style space has been recently restored — by the architect husband of the host, no less — and you will find an eclectic mix of contemporary furnishings set against stunning original stonework and an impressive arch in the middle of the living space. We love the way this stands in contrast to the glass mezzanine bedroom. Located slightly away from the busy tourist spots, you can enjoy an authentic slice of Roman life whilst being an easy walk from Termini Station. If you're ever in the mood for ice cream, the much-loved Gelateria La Romana is just up the road. * A fifth guest can be accommodated on the sofa-bed in the living space, although this does take up the communal space* The second bedroom is on the mezzanine level accessible by a wooden staircase without a railing — this...More Details

    I Am Spartacus

Those visiting Rome for the ancient marvels and historic sights won't find a location much better than this. It’s 100 metres from the Colosseum and the ruin-filled park of Colle Opio is your next-door neighbour. Wandering the surrounding streets it seems like every corner is home to an ancient church between family-run trattoria and gelaterias. The apartment is housed in a beautiful 18th-century building, and stepping inside you feel the opulence of an old-world parlour. Velvet seats at the bistro table, a velvet sofa piled high with cushions and suspended candelabra create the opulence, while the exposed stone and timber beams keep one foot firmly in the building’s history. Chess can provide the evening’s entertainment, which feels fitting amidst the gilded mirrors and oil paintings. Tranquillity awaits at this whimsical Italian apartment, which you’ll find tucked away down a quiet backstreet in Monti, one of Rome’s most eclectic neighbourhoods. Featuring high ceilings and immaculate wooden floors, this is the perfect place to unwind after a day of work or play in Italy's Eternal City. We particularly love the open-plan living area here and could see ourselves spending hours around the dining table, enjoying a bowl of fresh pasta alfredo and sharing a bottle of dry Frascati wine with our fellow guests. And when night falls, what better place to drift off than the secluded master bedroom, which comes with its very own ensuite bathroom, ideal if you’re after a bit of extra privacy. The interior’s not the only thing worth writing home about here though. Through Frosted Glass

Step into the Art Nouveau sunroom of this period apartment and just soak up its vintage style and warm character. Surrounded by extraordinary windows – some frosted for privacy, others with stained glass – along with huge houseplants and antique furnishings, it's a striking space. Small, but perfectly functional, the kitchen leads to a hallway and a snug TV room with its own dining table. The pretty master bedroom is beautifully decorated, with plenty of storage and a desk, while the ensuite second bedroom has its own desk and a fabulous tiled floor. A nine-minute stroll in either direction will take you to two of the city’s most majestic sights – the Colosseum and the Foro Romano. With antiquity and arts all around you, the theme continues as you return home. Many of us are content with painting walls in a calming, neutral tone, but the owner of this apartment had bigger plans. In a nod to the frescoes of the city, the walls are painted in trompe-l'œil effect – with clever positioning of the mirrors, the artwork appears in 3D. While the kitchen tiles and dining table have also enjoyed some brushwork, and this art project was just one effort in the restoration of this nineteenth-century home.We love the terracotta-coloured tilework, adorned by vintage pie...More Details

    Waning Quarter

You'll find this apartment in a quiet neighbourhood on the west side of Rome. The building was constructed in the 1950s, and there's a definite retro vibe inside, with bright colours and clean lines that are oh so on-trend. We love how fresh and luminous the living area feels, and the two balconies (one in each bedroom) are a huge plus. Just pour yourself a glass of wine and you've got yourself a perfect spot to unwind after a day out and about. Meals are easy to rustle up in the sleek kitchen, but as Italy is famous for its cuisine, chances are you'll want to eat out. This flat is in a residential district away from the bustling tourist areas, but we appreciated the sense of calm and local culture that you'll find here. There's a great viewpoint just seven minutes away – Belvedere di Via Piccolomini – which has a \ *The lift is quite small and has manual doors*When we measured the wi-fi, it was only running at 7Mbps*The kitchen's dece...More Details

Although the kitchen is compact, the large dining area and charming balcony offer lovely spaces for eating in. *The apartment overlooks Via del Gambero which is lined with shops so you’ll likely hear some regular street noise from below*Though well equipped, the kitchen is quite compact and narrow so there won’t be space for too many chefs in the kitchen*The home is on the second floor of a building without a lift so there are a few stairs to climb on arrival Air Condi...More Details

    Meadowlark

Just off Via Veneto - the glamorous, but fading, heart of La Dolce Vita - Meadowlark has a welcoming structure with a few nice, unique touches, like the arched window frames. There’s also a small balcony, and while it can get a little noisy from the traffic below, it’s still a lovely spot for breakfast. As a whole, it needs a bit of love - the kitchen in particular, and a few of the carpets are a bit dusty - but there’s enough quality in all the fittings that we can look past that and appreciate Meadowlark for what it is. *The kitchen is big but it's not in the best shape - the water pressure is a bit weak and the stoves were a little tired*The smaller bathroom doesn't have any windows*There's a busy street outside so get ready for a bit of traffic noise during the day*Guests 5 and 6 will be on a sofa bed in the living room Air ConditioningBalconyBathrobesBuzzer / Wireless IntercomCentral HeatingChild FriendlyCoffee MakerCooking Essen...More Details
