The concept of being small but mighty is a horrible cliche and one that we won’t use to describe Lovage. However, we must admit that we didn’t expect a place as small as this to be quite so charming. You can’t get away without mentioning the view. Unremarkable in one direction, but turn the other way and the Torre Velasca looms up. Greenwood is a comfortable place, with lots of space and natural light, but its main selling point is definitely the location. It’s around the corner from the Duomo – it’s less than a five-minute walk away – and on a main road, so there are lots of transport links. The interior’s not the point of the apartment, but that isn’t to say that it’s been overlooked. Warmth emanates from the furniture of Ephemeris, not so much due to luxury as to personality. There are little trinkets around the place, some coming from the family, others from markets. Most of this stuff is unique, and it’s been put together in a very careful, considered manner. The only real issue with Ephemeris is its lack of air conditioning. Your hosts employed an architect to ensure that nothing is present that needn't be, removing the distraction that excess creates to leave a clean and uncluttered space that's perfect for disconnecting and switching off. Nocellara is on the eighth floor, so as you might imagine, the terrace has quite the view across the city. The big French windows also let lots of light in, and it’s too high for shadows from other buildings to interfere. While the design of Orpington won’t make your heart flutter, there are other reasons it makes a good spot to stay. It’s a decent size, and the balcony is great for fresh air, even if it isn’t decked out with furniture.
