Modernist Times
Staying in Mar Diagonal is not the obvious choice for everyone, but if you want a more relaxed, beachy atmosphere, it’s hard to beat Mar Terra. The building is impressive enough in itself, and the fact that every room has a sea view is not to be sniffed at. While the design of the place is simple, even bordering on sparse, the way that the windows frame that view mitigates what could otherwise be seen as a slight lack of inspiration. Getting into the city is easy enough on the metro, but it’s about an hour on foot to Plaça de Catalunya. *The pool has opening hours, and is only accessible from 1 May to 15 October *Neither bathroom has a toilet roll holder*All the sea air has made the outside of the shutters a bit rusty*The bedrooms feel quite bare*Two people can sleep on a sofa bed in the living room Air ConditioningBalconyBathtubBuzzer / Wireless IntercomCentral HeatingDishwasherDryerHair DryerIronIroning BoardKitchenLift AccessMicrow...More Details

The City of Glass
Cool, calm and collected, this Scandinavian-chic penthouse is blessed with plenty of charisma. Everything about this home is effortlessly stylish – we especially love the vintage Beni Ourain-inspired rug, the handcrafted wooden light fixture, and the 1950s Ercol butterfly chairs. However, the cherry on top is the huge arched window in the living room, which frames the beautiful buildings of Avenida Diagonal in a mesmerising way. So, excuse us while we take a moment to imagine ourselves sitting in front of the luminous windows, enjoying the majestic views. Should this magnificent view not be enough, there's also a welcoming private terrace that's kitted out for alfresco feasts, while the adjacent sunroom is perfect for an afternoon siesta. Enjoy a glass of cava on the sun lounger before heading out to explore the neighbourhood. Explore Eixample and stroll along nearby streets, including the pedestrianised Enric Granados, vibrant Casanova...More Details

Staying at Diagonal Mar is a bit different from the typical Barcelona experience of Gaudí buildings and getting lost in the cobbled passages of the Gothic Quarter. While famed architectural marvels like the Sagrada Família are a twenty-minute drive away, this apartment is a dream for lovers of golden shores and turquoise waters – the beachfront is right opposite. You can walk to Platja de la Nova Mar Bella in just eight minutes, and admire views of its glistening waters from this glass-clad abode. With palm trees lining the road as you arrive at this modern building, there’s a beach-resort vibe that feels a world away from the hectic city centre. Inside, you’ll be wowed by the fresh, clean, and sleek interiors of the enormous open-plan living space. White is the dominant colour, illuminated further by floor-to-ceiling glass windows and sliding doors to private terraces and balconies. It’s a home that makes you feel like a VIP, especiall...More Details

This is not a home for lovers of minimalist chic. Still, it's one of our favourites in the collection – and not just because it's located in the heart of Eixample. Personifying the Catalan modernist desire to go beyond the obvious, it surprised us with unexpected detail on every corner. From the washbasin in the study to the cut-out wall between the kitchen and the dining room, lion-head knockers on the kitchen drawers, baroque details invade modernist patterns every step of the way. * There is no step-free access to this home – those with limited mobility or heavy luggage might need to look elsewhere* We felt that the kitchen was a bit old and could use an update * The breakfast area in the kitchen is only big enough for two people to eat there at once * While this home can accommodate up to eight guests, one of the double beds is quite small – not great for those who like to spread * There are no doors separating the ensuite bathroom...More Details
