Initially the concept of "Andaman Galley" was originated to promote and spearhead sea-adventure, curiosity , test risk taking abilities and exploratory spirits in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Jewels in the crown of the Bay of Bengal, offering abundance of irresistible underwater attractions, virgin beaches, active volcano, uninhabited Islands breathtaking scenic beauty, variety of cultural life, adventures of scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, yachting, game fishing , trekking sun bathing or merely relaxing and sight seeing in the lap of mother nature par excellence, so pure and unparalleled anywhere else and to salute and pay tribute to Captain Archibald Blair (founder of Port Blair) but for him, we would not have been talking to you. In 1789, Captain Archibald Blair of the Bombay Marine (the East India Company's Navy), acting under orders from the government of Bengal, established a penal colony on this site, and named it Port Cornwallis in honour of his commander, Admiral Sir William Cornwallis. By 1858, the first European settlers on the islands, who were established near the site of the old penal colony, renamed it Port Blair in honour of Captain Blair.
