Restored very pretty 300 yr old thatched cottage with modern comforts
Immerse yourself in the charms of this 300 year old restored thatched cottage, which retains many original features, along with modern comforts, creating a cozy & restful ambiance. Explore the meadow with its wild grasses & bee and butterfly-friendly plants, or sit with a drink on the patio, or on the swing seat, taking in all the scents and sounds of nature. Take a deep soak in the long cast-iron bath and curl up by the fire. Enjoy a long sleep in shuttered rooms. A perfect restorative and re-energizing escape. Whether you are on holiday, taking time out of your usual life, or staying while you work, you will have everything you need.
There is a large open plan dining room, with extendable dining table and kitchenette. The beamed ceiling is full height, and the original beam is in place over the stove, where back in the day, cooking was done over an open fire. For cooking you have options of a two ring hob and small electric oven or wood burning stove with large hot plate and full size oven. There is a full range of cooking utensils, pots and pans. There is a fridge freezer and microwave.
There are 2 double bedrooms at opposite ends of the cottage: one downstairs with full height beamed ceiling, one upstairs with ensuite WC, sink and electric shower. Both bedrooms have handcrafted wooden shutters for complete darkness. The bathroom downstairs has a long cast iron bath and handheld shower.
A loft over the dining room is accessed by handcrafted spiral staircase (not suitable for very small children) and has two single low beds....it is a very popular spot for children and teens and has a great view from up high!
The sitting room is off the dining room and is really cozy with a small wood burning stove and French doors which can be thrown open to the patio in summer. There is a television (Irish channels and Sky News), tons of DVDs, books, games etc.
There are sash windows throughout the property.
There are views to the front of the wildflower meadow and patio along with its own "square" of stone outbuildings. To the rear is ample parking, another sitting area and a wall of roses. You will have privacy, possibly with visits from various animals, and owners nearby should you need anything.
WiFi is available throughout the cottage.
Phone coverage can be patchy (some providers better than others) but you'll generally find a spot!
There is an environmentally friendly wood pellet boiler for central heating and hot water (which owners will keep topped up for you) and an electric immersion if heating is not needed.
There is garden furniture, a long swing seat facing the sunset, sun umbrella etc.
You will have the entire cottage and its grounds to yourselves. They are maintained without use of chemicals and in a nature friendly way.
You will have access to "the dairy" which is an outbuilding attached to the cottage if you need the washing machine.
You have private parking and the patio, meadow and area to the rear of the cottage is all yours to use and enjoy.
There is storage for working gear, bikes etc
The old traditional stone outbuildings to one side of the cottage are a bit crumbly and we ask that guests do not go in, for safety reasons.
We are available when/if needed.Full manual in the cottage with lots of local visitor and practical information.
Notes:
We welcome babies and children. We have a travel cots, baby sheets and blankets, high chair and baby monitor monitor, and lots of toys suitable for pre-school ages and older, plus a mountain of kids' movies. There is a nice wooden dolls house with a mouse family.
Please note the spiral staircase is not suitable for very small children and the wood burning stoves can get very hot.
Most of the outbuildings are not for guest use for safety reasons. However there are two units which are safe and can be used.
Note the above on limitations to tv (Irish channels and Sky News only) and phone coverage (patchy).
Please also note that the loft (two single beds) over the dining room is not completely private, although it is situated up high....sounds and light from below may reach.
We maintain the meadow and all planted up areas using chemical free methods. All weeding is done manually and we sometimes leave weeds in cracks etc for the insects and pollinators. The wildflower meadow is enjoyed by bees, butterflies, moths and others. There are paths mown through it for you to wander down. We get many varieties of birds, butterflies and other wildlife at the cottage to enjoy by day and at nightfall the moths and bats can be seen.
