Looking for a one-of-a-kind home with a heaven-sent view to boot? Well, they don’t come more character-filled or awe-inspiring than this. Perched high on the hills of Granada and just a short drive from the sandy shores of Lake Iznajar, this ancient church is lovingly reimagined into a unique retreat for relaxation and reflection.

Step inside, and the house seems so frozen in time you can almost hear the old church bell ring. Ochre-washed walls and vaulted ceilings bring all the historic charm, and in the central nave now lies a vast double-height living space. And don’t get us going on those hand-painted frescoes – best admired from upstairs on the lofty mezzanine level. And there are some surprising flurries of 21st-century living to indulge in here, too. Starting with that infinity pool with a counter-current swim jet to bank some laps as you soak up the jaw-dropping vistas of the Cordova Subbética mountain range.

As night falls, the home takes on a truly magical feel, with the lights of the nearby town, Algarinejo, flickering on and a blanket of stars twinkling above. Cosy up on the Balinese bed outside with drinks to catch a shooting star – we can’t think of a finer spot to toast a day’s end.
*Prepare to do a bit of off-roading here, there’s a dirt track approximately 600 metres long to access the property, though a 4X4 car isn’t necessary
