avatar Relaxing and comfortable stay with a homely atmosphere

I do feel that I should respond to the last review. My family and I had a very enjoyable stay at Carrick House in December when the weather was cold and deep snow. The heating controls we found easy to use and should we have experienced any difficulty we had the housekeepers details easily at hand. Not many self caterers offer access to coal in the shed. Beds are very comfortable and a high standard of cleanliness. The kitchen is well equipped and we had no problems with the dishwasher - did the last reviewers make any contact with the owner or housekeeper to give them the opportunity to rectify the problem? This is not the first stay at Carrick House and will not be the last. If you want a house with character and to feel at home in a wonderful breathtaking landscape then this is the ideal house for you.

We stayed at this house over Christmas and I would advise anyone who was thinking of booking to think again. The house is very dated. The central heating wasn't working properly, the dining room table looked as if it was an old door. It still had hinges on the bottom. The dish washer wasn't working either. The furniture in the living room was very dated. I think it was made for midgets. We had to put pillows on them so we didn't feel the springs. All in all we paid double the normal price for the Christmas holidays but think it was very unsatisfactory.

Just returned from Carrick House after staying there over the last week. We found the house to be clean, tidy and very well presented. As a party of hill walkers, it had all the necessities that we required. Midway through the week, we found that the microwave had stopped working so alerted the owner to make them aware for their next guests. later the same day a bottle of wine was delivered to apologise about the situation, which I thought was a lovely touch. We didn't really use the microwave, but I feel that if it had been more of a concern, the unit would have been replaced asap. Communication with the owner was great. They were very friendly and quick to respond (See Above) to any queries we had. My only minor recommendation would be to install a second shower in the bathroom in addition to the shower room already in place. We found that after long days the mountains, it took a wee while to get everyone through the showering process. However, this in no way spoilt the experience. Looking forward to booking up again when next visiting the area. We still have plenty of Munros to bag, so we'll be back!!

We arrived and it was snowing, it was toasty and warm in Carrick house and the fire was laid with a full hod of coal ready; a lovely welcome. We enjoyed spending every evening relaxing in front of the open fire ( no prob with sofa, I am 6'4"). Plenty of room for our 2 year old to play and explore. The travel cot, with proper mattress, and high chair were up and ready to use. We had no problems with any of the appliances, all easy to use and adjusted the heating according using the simple timer. We used the washing machine a few times too. The table extension kit under the stairs would have come in handy if we were to have a large dinner party. We did not need to contact the housekeeper during our stay. Good wifi signal throughout house, watched iplayer on iPad no problem. Fantastic location round the corner from butchers, paper shop, bank, pubs, deli, coop, park, golf course, train station plus other gift type shops: we enjoyed skiing, walking, highland folk museum, wildlife park, strathspey steam railway, cairngorm brewery, inch marshes, inchraich nursery. We will definitely back.

If you want hi tech and ultra modern this isn't for you.The house is old and the furniture is dated. But, it is cosy and warm, beds are comfortable and there is everything you could need in the kitchen. The living room has a coal fire,tv,video player, jigsaw and a plentiful supply of books.A lovely secure garden.I would highly recommend it.I also agree with everything the first 3 reviews say.

A beautiful cottage in a small friendly town, ideally situated for sightseeing etc. Cottage was well equipped, spotlessly clean, with a log fire already laid for if we needed it, with plenty of logs and coal available at no extra charge. It was a shame the weather wasn't on our side otherwise we would have been able to make full use of the lovely garden for an evening bbq. The shops, pubs and railway station were all within 5-10 minute walking distance, so if you wanted to explore without the car it was a bonus. Plenty of takeaway places for easy eating after a long day of exploring and nice comfy beds to fall into at night. Would definitely revisit this cottage again, a big Thank You to the owners for letting us this lovely home from home.

Cosy cottage we thought. A bit dated but perfectly functional. House felt a bit cold sometimes but we just put on an extra layer. No photos of the kitchen and bathroom on website. Certainly not the best features of the cottage. Still had a nice stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Carrick House in Kingussie. It was the perfect spot. Very clean and soooo peaceful. The house has a solarium (sun room) on the back of the house and I spent my early mornings there drinking coffee and writing and my husband and I spent our evenings there with a drink reflecting on our day and making plans for the next day. Beds were great - we all slept well. Kitchen was great - we cooked some great meals there. Kids had fun burning off some energy in the backyard. I loved every moment of my time at the Carrick House and we were all sad to leave the place. easy access to the Coop for groceries and a few take-outs and cafes close by.
