The house is a refurbished farm property set in a beautiful rural setting with easy access by car to food shopping and a number of WW1/WW2 sites. The food shops are also an easy bike ride. 4 bikes are provided. The house structure maybe old but the furniture and facilities are all very modern and in good working order. In our party of 5 we all rated the shower the best from a number of houses we have rented. The owner/manager Marie Therese (speaks various languages) was very helpful and even offered to loan us her bike as we were a party of 5 and the rental house includes 4 bikes. She recommended the local Patisserie, "Page", and it didn't disappoint. The local supermarket is also nearby. Local farm produce is available and there is even a strawberry punnet vending machine adjacent to the road! GPS longitude/latitude coordinates took us to the front door.

We were delayed by nearly 12 hours due to flights being cancelled, but that didn't put off our wonderful host, Marie, brightly greeting us at the door of the cottage at midnight in then to pouring rain! We had emailed earlier to let her know we would be late so she had bought us bread, bacon, eggs and cheese for the morning as shops would be closed on a Sunday so that was a huge help and we just paid at the end with the power (which was minimal incidentally).
The cottage is delightful with great facilities, and a gorgeous outlook from the back. It's in very easy driving distance to the western front and Marie has lots of information for you to access to make the best use of the area's history. Marie herself is to be involved in the light ceremony later in October this year.
Wifi worked well, washer and drier were a great use to us due to the miserable weather! Would recommend to anyone, although if you can't manage narrow stairs maybe look elsewhere, but perfect for us and will definitely try to revisit in the future.
Thank you so much Marie

very clean and well equipped cottage, owner very helpful without being intrusive. Stairs narrow and steep with downstairs toilet which was a challenge for our elderly parents but would still happily stay again.

Absolutely beautiful location ideal for family holiday. We really enjoy riding bikes and visiting surroundings and trying to fond nearest windmills. Cottage well equipped and the owner Marie Therese was really friendly and helpful. Bruges is located only about 30 min drive and it must see place! Overall I would recommended this place and hope to come back there again soon.

We have just returned from the cottage and felt we should let everyone kinow how lovely it was. Prettier and more spacious than it looks in the pictures, this felt like a real home from home. Everything you need is already there including all your towells and linens for the bathroom and the kitchen. There are bikes to use in the garage and the surrounding area is so flat everyone can have a go. Marie Therese , the owner, was lovely and really helpful finding out information for us before we went and while we were there and generally made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended.

Stayed here for 4 nights to go and visit some WW1 sites and Brugge. We had our own car so it was good to be able to use the driveway and garage. Marie Therese was very helpful in providing all sorts of baby things e.g. play pen, cot, bike seat etc. We had a nice BBQ in the garden which has all the utensils and matches! You can even use some of her herbs that she grows in the garden. Marie Therese has lovingly restored the wooden furniture, doors and floors of this place and even built the kitchen. It is really lovely and very clean inside. Bathroom with shower is downstairs but no probs (she provided a baby bath). It was really useful to have a washing machine and dryer there to wash some clothes - especially if you have a baby! The stairs to upstairs bedrooms are steeper than normal stairs but ok with baby. Lovely view of the fields from the kitchen whilst we made Belgian waffles on the machine supplied. Would definitely go back.

The cottage is absolutely lovely and the owner Marie Therese made us very welcome and made us feel very much at home. The property is absolutely spotless and the kitchen is the best equipped kitchen I have seen. I think everything is there that anyone would want. It is a perfect place to relax and to use as a base to visit many places in the area. You do need a car to get there but you can use the train (station not far away) to visit say Brugges or Brussels. The beds are comfortable and includes linen and towels in the bathroom. The bathroom is downstairs so you do have to go downstairs from the bedrooms - which isn't really a big issue. I would certainly recommend this lovely and friendly cottage and we would certainly hope to stay there again.

We stayed here for a week in May 2015 to allow my father to visit the WWI war sites. My mother found the cottage over the internet and booked it due to the location, cost and reviews.
The cottage is easy to find, very clean and large enough for the 6 people it sleeps. Although when we were there we did find a few faults. I'll start with the faults and then move on to the good bits :)
1. While we did have excellent weather this did cause an issue with the outside drains. By the driveway is a drainage ditch and water from the kitchen does drain into this (nothing nasty just the washing up water and dishwasher), but due to the low volume of water whenever we used the sink and then went to get into the car there was a very nasty stagnant water smell.
2. The seating in the living room is very uncomfortable and you cant sit there for very long.
3. The house does sleep 6 but the beds consist of only one double with the other two rooms having only bunk beds (Which I had trouble getting in and out of due to hurting my foot)
4. The floorboards do squeak a lot in the upstairs area so if you are up at 6am everyday like me but everyone else likes to sleep in it means you do wake everyone up trying to get downstairs (or even if you wake in the night and need the toilet as the only bathroom is downstairs).
5. You pay extra for use of the electricity and gas which wasn't declared on the booking website. While this may be standard it would be nice to have it listed for clarity.
6. The road outside the cottage while looking like a country lane in the UK is always very busy with cars and trucks which go past very fast not sticking to the speed limit.
For the pros of staying here
1. Its very central, we could get the Brugges in less than an hour. It is close to shops although please take note of opening times of both the bakers, butchers and supermarkets. (All larger shops are closed Sunday except for the Carrefour in the town next door, Kortmark, which is open Sunday morning until 12:30 but then closed Monday Mornings)
2. Its very warm and comfortable and has a nice little garden that looks out over the fields and does have some children's play equipment although the slide needs a scrub!!
3. The owner is very friendly and helpful (Although when you get in she has a lot of rules to explain) and will even offer to get you fresh bread on the first morning after you arrive.
4. She has a lot of guides and information about the local area in the property which you can search for great ideas on what to do.
5. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need, although it can be hard to find things and the pans are not well suited to things that can stick like eggs.
Over all it was a nice place to stay but I do not think I would go back just due to the fact that the bathroom is downstairs (My mums disabled so it was hard for her in the night and there is a wasted room upstairs that can be used for dressing that would make a perfect ensuite) and the fact it only has one double bed which means its unsuitable for two couples but great for a family with children.

We loved to stay in this comfortable cottage that we used as a place to sleep while during the days making trips to visit Brugges, Brussels and Ghent (all between 45-75 minutes driving). Heating and shower worked very well. The house was very clean. The two non so good things are the sofas in the living room (which are very little and no comfortable for watching TV for more than 45 minutes) and that the only toilet is in the bathroom downstairs -while the bedrooms (really nice) are upstairs-..
Marie Therese, the owner who lives next door, is very nice and helpful.
You need to have a car. There's nothing within walking distance to enjoy. But very clase, it is Diskmuide, which Museum of the War and Trenches of Death are really worth visiting.

This house was absolutely spotless and had everything you could possibly need in it. Marie is very informative, answers queries by email promptly before you go and lives in her detached house next door - so is always on hand if you need her. Fantastic to have the use of the washing machine and dryer, and despite there being 5 of us, the energy bill for 4 days was only an extra 10 euros which I thought was reasonable. There are a lot of brochures and books at the house for exploring the local area. The house is ideally situated for train trips to Brugge and Ghent - half an hour to Brugge and parking is free at Kortemark Station. Only around 9 euros return per adult. (kids under 12 go free) We especially enjoyed the garden which was a nice size, with a lovely view and a BBQ. Our Eurotunnel journey was delayed on the way there, and shops close between 6 and 7.30pm, so do bring food with you if you are arriving later. There is a take-away about 3 min drive from the house, which was useful, although many places are not open on Tuesday evenings for some reason. We went to the beach - 30 minute drive - plenty of beaches to choose from and they are lovely, with free parking nearby. Also saw many Flanders Fields sites: trenches, Pool of peace etc nearby, all the WW1 sights were very informative. Ypres was well worth a visit, especially the museum next to the information centre. Marie has a little booklet with discount codes in for many of these sights, well worth making use of! The satnav got a little confused in the local area, so worth having some good local maps instead. It is worth mentioning that we got quite a bit of road noise from the master bedroom - the road outside the front of the house is a bit like a "B" road in the UK, not massively busy, but might affect the light sleepers. It was certainly not enough to put us off though, and we would certainly stay again.

Received a great welcome from Marie Therese, she couldn't have been more helpful. The accommodation was excellent with everything that we needed. The setting was very peaceful but not isolated within easy reach of supermarket etc. Convenient place to use as a base for touring, walking and relaxing. Would highly recommend this cottage to everyone and I plan to return in the future. The added bonus was the use of a spacious garage.
Thank you Marie Therese for all your help.

Lovely cottage with plenty of room for a family of 6. Full of character - steep stairs, creaking floorboards - with a beautiful view overlooking fields from the back garden. Very well equipped with all you could need both inside and out. Comfy beds and a nice hot shower were both very much appreciated. We enjoyed days at the beach in De Haan, a day trip to Bruges by train from the local station, a barbeque in the beautiful garden, picking up daily picnic provisions from the local bakery and biking along an old WW1 railway track from Diksmuide to Neuwpoort which has a beautiful harbour and boardwalk leading to the beach. Marie-Therese was an excellent host, full of advice and information and overall just lovely. Thankfully Marie-Therese and her son were on hand to help restart our car in the early hours of the morning on the day of our departure - we were very lucky to have such fabulous hosts. Thank you again Marie-Therese!!
