Apt Olive, City Hall: CRUISE SPECIALS

INQUIRE ABOUT PRE/POST CRUISE SPECIALS
[please inquire about availability; because of the unique multiple configurations of our flats, we cannot make the calendar here work accurately]
Apartment Olive is a small, cozy garden apartment, opening into the courtyard of a landmark building in the very center of Budapest. Ferenciek Square, where Olive sits, is the heart of Budapest, the geographic midpoint of the innermost of Budapest's concentric semi-circles and the oldest part of town. Olive's building is one of the city's oldest residential buildings (admittedly a bit tattered), directly across from the Budapest City Hall.
The courtyard is tree-filled and green, unusual for Budapest, with shrubbery and wildflowers and trees growing wilily nilly. It's not a garden or a place to sit and sip a mint julep, but it is far more verdant than the typical Budapest courtyard ... and conveys a sense of calm and peacefulness as one views it through the blinds.
Our favorite pastry shop is across the street from the Ferenciek side of the building; our favorite café is a block away from the City Hall (Varoshaz) side of the building. The Astoria and Ferenciek Metro stops are both just steps away. Vaci utca is one block from Ferenciek tere, the Danube within view of the square and about a 3 minute walk as well. At Vaci, you are midway between its two endpoints - Vorosmarty ter and Gerbeaud's historic cafe to the north 5 blocks; the Central Market Hall to the south a similar distance. The Great Synagogue is 2-3 blocks away, the Basilca about 6-8. You can catch a bus into Buda (or the Red Metro) just outside the door.
The apartment itself, while small, is ideal for 1-3 people. We have renovated it to capture the feel of an upscale turn of the century Hungarian garden apartment, with vaulted ceilings and antiques and traditional artisanal pieces throughout. There's a queen sized bed in the bedroom, a custom shower in the tiled bath with a converted antique bentwood chamberpot stand as the sink, and heated tile on the floor. The bedroom has a (gated and curtained) double door opening to the courtyard, as well as a lovely small antique wardrobe for your clothes.
The livingroom has a kitchenette with induction cooktop, fridge, microwave, and clothes washer; a bay window and window seat adjacent to the dining table, a queen convertible sofa (not a folding mattress but a comfortable solid queen), a large flatpanel TV, high speed WiFi internet, Nespresso coffee system, free international VOIP outbound calling (and an inbound US telephone number for low-cost incoming calls from the USA).
NOTE: Olive is also viewable in a video (admittedly primitive...we're not professionals): ask us or search for `Apartment Olive Budapest`.

We had never travelled to Budapest before and did not know what to expect from the apartment. John was very helpful offering to arrange transport for the transfer from the airport and even checking if we prefer red wine or white upon arrival! His apartment manager was there to meet us and show us how everything worked. It is the small touches that were really appreciated as well as the wine there was milk eggs fruit bread butter and salami. A lovely coffee machine with a range of coffees too. The apartment can be entered from the street from one of two entrances through a beautiful old courtyard and the apartment itself is on the ground floor with a secure gate. There is a wealth of information on getting around and where to eat shop and see the sights. We settled in really quickly and felt at home. There is a telephone/computer and a huge range of films for guests to use. John came around one of the days and offered us free tickets for the Symphony that evening that he couldnt use! The apartment has good quality furniture lovely feather pillows and big fluffy towels. It is right in the middle of the city but is very quiet and very well placed for the underground or buses to get around (we walked mostly everywhere no problems bring good walking shoes) Would highly recommend Olive for couples or small families. Fabulous well done John and Jeanie we will be back!

Our recent trip to Budapest was a huge success do to our stay at Apt. Olive-City Hall. Our apartment was incredibly comfortable, reasonably priced and amazingly situated in the center of Budapest. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding neighborhoods, which are filled with great eateries, stores and historic attractions. To make things even better, public transportation is right around the corner. I would highly recommend this location to anyone who is looking for an ideal place to stay while in Budapest.

Fabulous little apartment in the middle of Budapest which had everything we wanted and more. Lots of extras such as coffee and items in the fridge made it feel like home from home. Would recommend getting the taxi direct through John as it was so easy once we arrived in the city. The Christmas Markets were lovely with good atmosphere. I would recommend the Gerloczy Cafe and in particular the squid salad and hot and spicy pork ribs with green mustard lentils... gorgeous. Everything is well priced in the city and we struggled to spend our spending money. Fantastic little haven worth a visit and thank you John, Ilona and Alajos for making our stay so comfortable.

John is THE most wonderful host and I was glad to have had the opportunity to meet him for a short chat. The booking, check-in and check out was efficient and well organized. Ilona, the manager, was most helpful and always willing to assist with anything that you would need during your stay. I spent a perfect one month in Budapest and I am sure that I would not have enjoyed it as much if I had not stayed here. The apartment is the perfect size for a couple. The bathroom is big and well designed. There are some some toothbrushes, floss, shaving cream, etc. in the cupboard. The room has a double bed and a pc with internet (superfast wifi), a webcam and headphones with a mike. I think John has set up a printer in the office next door as well. The apartment has a washing machine (and washing liquid), a drying rack, a travel iron, ironing board so you don't have to bother with a laundry. The central heating is really good! There's a nespresso machine with a lot of pods and a milk frother! There's a tv with english satellite channels (which you can also connect to the PC), a dvd machine with lots of dvds to choose from, a bookshelf with travel guides, some novels and board games. There's a landline that you can use for international calls to almost 60 countries i think. There's also a moblie phone with credit that comes in very handy! The kitchenette is perfect with an awesome stove, a micro, fridge/freezer and enough cutlery for four. John provides you with a few breakfast things like eggs, yogurt, pastries, salt, pepper, sugar, tea bags, etc. so you don't have to run around after a long flight! The location is PERFECT! 2 mins walking distance from the metro station, about 5mins from the main street Vaci ut, John gives you a good list of close restaurants and supermarkets and other shops that you might like. Some advice for budapest: Do cash exchange in the city -- the rate they give you is almost the same as what you would google. The public transport system is excellent but it might make the city seem more complicated than it is. Walk around and try the free walking tour if you only have a few days in the city. They will show you the main sites and give you advice about more things to do. It runs twice everyday and is really excellent! The opera is a must see. I think it has the 3rd best acoustics in europe. The 4dx cinema is really cool! If you are a student from any country then go to the MUPA (palace of the arts) for any show that interests you and standing room tickets are only 500forints! They even let you sit if there are empty seats ;) A really good indian restaurant is the Taj mahal - decent prices and authentic food. If you are a student I think its definitely worthwhile to get the ISIC card or take your European student card because there are student discounts on public transport, cinemas, baths, museums, etc.

Our first vacation apartment rental was a delight. We were so pleased with the location and all the amenities of the apartment--Nespresso machine (with coffee), washing machine, VoIP phone for free calls back to the us, great towels, etc. We walked everywhere from the apartment--from Castle Hill and Vizivaros in Buda to Hero's Square in Pest, and sites in between. After a long day's walk, it was always pleasant to arrive back at our cozy apartment off a quite interior courtyard. We twice ate at (and much enjoyed) Gerloczy Cafe which is practically around the corner. John provides an amazing amount of information (before arrival and in the apartment) on all facets of the apartment, shopping, restaurant recommendations, etc.. and the apartment holds what must be every guide book written on Budapest. An onsite manager provides a tour of the facilities and is available to address any issues (such as a dead battery on our phone, fixed in no time). John also works with a great taxi service, which we used to go to the airport. A great experience and wonderful way to experience Budapest.

My husband and I stayed at this condo the first week of October. We had a perfect experience renting and enjoying this condo located in an ideal section of wonderful Budapest. John, the owner, arranged for his driver to meet us at the train station upon our arrival from Vienna and also for a driver upon our departure to the airport. Ilona met us when we arrived and did a thorough job of explaining everything about the apartment. We immediately felt at home with this living space--comfortable bed and linens, kitchen with refrigerator filled with meat and cheeses and a plate of sweets and a bottle of wine! It was clean, well-maintained and our every need anticipated. The Mac computer was very nice to have. Also, the free calls to the USa would have been nice but we couldn't get the phone to work. I'm sure it was something we did/didn't do. John would have helped us if we would have stayed home long enough to ask for his assistance! Budapest is a city of wonders. Make sure to read John's recommendations about places to go, see, and do. The nearby restaurant, Gerloczy Cafe, is charming. We ate there twice, both lunch and dinner. The pizza place, Vapiano, was excellent. Follow John's directions to find the best hot chocolate at aztek. Of the 21 meals we had that week, we ate 6 of them out. The kitchen was very serviceable and the washing machine served us in good stead. Olive is so close to public transportation and grocery stores. We highly recommend Olive. We believe John's other places would be as welcoming as Olive.

Subject: Apt Olive at City Hall: Leafy Refuge in the Center Location: Budapest, Central Hungary, Hungary, Europe Title: Great location, spacious yet cozy, fully equiped apartment ID#: 185198657 · Excellent location in Budapest. Very short walks to important sites in the city and very convenient to public transportation, which is easy to use in Budapest. Early 20th century building (my guess) with five stories and a large central courtyard. · The apartment itself was warm, spacious yet cozy, beautifully appointed and very charming. A lovely lady met us precisely at the agreed time to provide keys, information about the apartment and the area. · Of particular note, John has equipped the apartment with a marvelous library of books and videos about Budapest and Hungary. · The apartment was also equipped with an excellent TV and phones that can be used for local calls and a phone that can be used (free of charge) for international calls. We were able to call our children in the States a couple of times. · John very graciously supplied the apartment with eggs, pastries, cheese, sausage slices and a bottle of wine. This was so thoughtful and "above and beyond". Also available were a few umbrellas in case of rain (and ponchos as well) although save for one drizzly day when we were inside visiting the Museum of Terror ( a "must see" ) we had wonderful early autumn weather. · During our 3 ½ weeks in Eastern/Central Europe we visited seven countries. Budapest was our favorite location (closely followed by Prague). Why?: Proud yet friendly people, very cosmopolitan; magnificent architecture and an obvious commitment to restoring 18th and 19th century buildings that were neglected during the Communist era; excellent food, wine and beer and a reviving "café culture" that we fully participated in during our short stay; a rich, fascinating history. I could go on and on. · Recommended locations to visit: Matthias Church (magnificently restored after suffering severe damage and neglect during WW II and the Communist era), Fisherman's Bastion, Gellart Hill (climb to the top for stunning views of Buda and Pest), Hero's Square, Central Market Hall, Parliament Building (take the guide tour of the interior), St. Stephen's Basilica, the Jewish Quarter and Great Synagogue, Szechenyi Thermal Baths, Vajdahunyad Castle (not really a castle but a collection of recreated architectural styles from Hungary's past few centuries. A little "touristy" but worth a visit) · Recommended places to eat and drink-Rezlakas Bistro, just around the corner from Olive Apartments (delicious Hungarian food and music; we ate there twice). Kit Szerecen, a nice bistro with outdoor seating for a light lunch of tapas or salads. Gerbeaud, a landmark pastry shop extraordinaire. Gerloczy Café and Restaurant for good, traditional Hungarian food. Auguszt Pastry House, just around the corner from Olive Apartments. In my opinion, even better than Gerbeaud), The New York Café in the opulent, now Italian owned Boscolo Hotel. (The restoration of this café was way over the top and although a bit garish and pricey, it's a fun place to go for a late afternoon snack and coffee). The cavernous, beautiful Book Café in Lotz Hall of the relatively recently restored Parizsi Nagyaruhaz (Paris Department Store). Go in the late afternoon for sandwiches and coffee when a pianist fills the place with beautiful music. · Other Recommended activities: Attend the opera at the Hungarian State Opera House. A breathtaking interior. We attended a sold out performance of La Traviata at 11 AM on a Sunday morning. Ticket prices are very reasonable compared to New York or Boston. Take a 45 minute ride on an HEV railway train from the Batthyany ter Station to the ancient, beautiful, Baltic-influenced town of Szentendre, situated on the Danube Bend. Do not go on a weekend if you can avoid it as it will be over-run by tourists and day tripping Budapesters. We went during the week and it was pleasantly tranquil. Enjoy lunch in Szentendre at Promenade Vendeglo Tavern, near the Danube. (Try their unique cold plum soup!)

As with John and Jeanne's other apartments nothing is forgotten. We have stayed in other units of theirs and there is a sense of familiarity in each and Olive is no exception. Since it is tucked away inside of a courtyard it is very easy to unwind from a day of being out and about in Budapest. The location is perfect for not only sightseeing but also for exploring the less touristy side of the city.

We stayed there for 6 days. It is very central. It fronts a quiet courtyard, opposite the City Hall. It is difficult to imagine a better equipped holiday apartment. microwave, refrigerator, washer/ drier, cook-top, a/c. Cutlery, crockery and cooking necessities. The owner provides a welcome package, and bottle of wine - as standard, no cost. Location. Within easy stroll of two metro stations. About 2 minutes from the main restaurant strip. Quiet courtyard, closed to non- residents at dusk every evening. In all honesty it is difficult to imagine a better priced, equipped, located apartment in this or any other city. BUT - there is more. The owner supplies extensively researched information ( both electronically, and through the Internet, on the apartment. Of course wifi is available, and reliable - at no additional cost. I could go on - but I hope I've already conveyed the fact that our stay in Budapest was made absolutely perfect by our choice to stay in Apartment Olive. I'm more than happy to answer e-mailed questions.

My mother and I stayed at apartment Olive in June 2013. It was just the place we had hoped for. Wonderfully located for all things Pest, Olive is a delightful retreat for any traveller. Located on the ground floor of a charming courtyard, Olive offers all the comforts of home. I was especially pleased to find a Bluetooth speaker system from which to play the soundtrack to our holiday. There were fresh pastries in the fridge on our arrival which made for a delicious breakfast. Olive is very comfortable and we happened to stay during a 37degree heat wave. This was unusually hot for Hungary but we were cool and content in Olive. My mother took the bed while I used the pull-down couch, again surprisingly comfortable and easy to assemble. Olive has an abundance of books and Dvds which we enjoyed during our stay. Otherwise Pest has so much to offer and this apartment has the best location. We walked everywhere and only took the Metro to go to Heroes Square slightly more to the north where the most exquisite and timeless spa is located in the park. Definitely a must see. Our evening were spent enjoying concerts in St Stephens, dining al fresco, watching art performances in the all-night museum festival and wandering along the Danube.

This is a compact apartment located in the center of town. While the outside of the building may appear less than perfect, I assure you that the apartment is. It has all the modern touches and a great bed. We had a bottle of wine and supplies for a meal waiting for us, so we didn't have to forage for food or a restaurant after we got in. Nice touch. Whether you needed an umbrella, a cellphone, a razor, Qtips, or a frother for your cappuccino it was all there. Everything about the rental details was professional, efficient and friendly. John provided us with a lot of travel help even before we arrived. Apartment Olive made our stay in Budapest a memorable one.

I traveled to Budapest to visit my daughter, who was finishing a college semester of study. She joined me for a week-long stay at apt. Olive, which is a sweet, efficient, and affordable oasis in the center of Pest. There are extensive instructions left for navigating the many amenities in the apt. At first I felt overwhelmed, but was appreciative of the details and the invaluable musings and recommendations for exploring the city--which are a true insider's view. The Nespresso machine was heartily used, and the tea and sugar supply were terrific. Local wine, pastries, eggs, milk and cold cuts were an extra touch that went above and beyond the usual rental property. This thoughtfulness and hospitality is displayed throughout the stay--before, during and after. Any and all questions promptly addressed. There is an extensive library of books and Dvds relating to Hungary, hand hewn towels, toilet articles in the modern and spacious bathroom with gorgeous shower, and a comfortable bed. The ceilings are high, giving the two rooms, which I think most suitable for one or two people, a feeling of spaciousness. The design is gracious and welcoming. After a long winter, our week in May brought summer like temps. We walked and walked and enjoyed sitting outside at cafes and restaurants, going to the Baths, climbing the hills of Buda for the views of Pest and the Danube--walking in City Park, and exploring the rich cultural offerings of the city. Olive is a terrific bargain, and a way to feel less like a tourist cloistered in a hotel. Budapest buildings have wonderful courtyards, and the two at The Olive are expansive. As the heading says, a little nest in the bustling city of Budapest. I wholeheartedly recommend apartment Olive, and feeling as if I have just scratched the surface of the city, hope to return soon to sample one of the Farago's other apartments.

This bijou apartment is not only in a fantastic location, but once you enter inside, you cannot believe how the owners have just thought of everything. It was without the doubt the best apartment I have stayed in. First of all, it has everything you need, and then it has everything you want. The supply of information, Dvds, fridge supplies, coffee, oh it just has everything and it's warm and cosy and you just feel when you're there that the owners would just die with embarrassment if you found anything wanting, and so, you just don't. Amazing value as well. I don't know what I liked best about the apartment because I just loved everything.

Apartment Olive is centrally located in Budapest and is,atthe same time, very peaceful and quiet! John went to great lengths to acquaint us with every feature of the apartment, the neighborhood, and the city. Apartment Olive was an awesome little apartment in the heart of Pest. We found the neighborhood ideal with restaurants, shopping, and even a grocery store all very close. The apartment was perfect for 2 people. We found the apartment full of all the perks you would want when staying with a close family friend. I cannot say enough good things about how the owners have set up this apartment. We had everything we could ever use and more. From a local cell phone to DVD's, a bottle of wine, some local food in the refrigerator, and every grooming item you can need. However, the best items of all were the guides that the owners had written for the apartment and the city. It offered many ideas on what to do, where to go, what to eat etc... I would recommend this apartment to anyone I know going to Budapest!

My wife and I stayed in the Olive apartment recently while we were in Budapest. It is perfectly located in Pest and allows you to walk everywhere. John (owner) has a personal touch ensuring that everything you need is right there when you arrive. From the fresh pastries, travel information, the coffee maker to the computer and phone systems - you will find Olive a wonderful place to stay. John was very easy to communicate with and even called when we arrived to make sure everything was fine. It is all close by - great restaurants, local wine shops and the fabulous Great Market Hall. Olive is excellent value and it allows you to enjoy Budapest as it was meant to be - like a local.

Apartment Olive is a real little gem situated right in the heart of Pest. The apartment is quite small but fine for two people - three at a pinch. What it lacks in size is made up for in facilities. John, the owner has thought of everything a weary traveller might need from spa bag with towels to spare toiletries. My wife was delighted to find there was an easy to use computer and free phone calls. We were met by John's charming agent who greeted us with wine and pastries (oh yes, and the fridge was well stocked with essentials to get us going). To top it all off, John himself phoned us from the USA to make sure everything was alright. The building complex comprises two interconnected courtyards and seems to be very old and rather neglected though I thought this only added to its charm. In contrast to some of its neighbours, Olive is well maintained and is done out in the style of a traditional Hungarian apartment. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend apartment Olive to any prospective visitors to Budapest.

A lovely apartment and the best of welcomes. A great place to get acquainted with Buda and Pest. The only criticism would be one side of the very comfortable bed was placed against the wall, so one out of two people must be prepared to climb in or jump into it. Pull out bed available if you can't manage it. Lots of in house facitities.

I have rented apartments throughout Europe for over 10 years, but never had such an incredible positive experience! John Farago, the proprietor, is extremely generous with the many amenities he supplies for his guests. Hungarian pastries and wine, and a refrigerator stocked with sausage, cheese, eggs, butter and milk welcomed us. His manager Ilona, who welcomed us was very helpful and even returned later to help us with our laptop connection. John even called to welcome us and make sure that all was well. The charm of the old marries well with an excellent renovation of the kitchen and bathroom. The towels were thick and fluffy and we really appreciated the spa bag filled even more towels to take to the thermal baths. Other amenities John provides is toothpaste, toothbrushes, razor, shave cream, deodorant, over the counter medicines and even an eyeglass fix kit!!! Whatever you forgot to pack, John probably has it for you. We enjoy the ease of the Nespresso and milk frothing machine along with provided cafe capsules provided for his guests. Tea bags, honey and sugar were also included. There were adequate cookware, knives, utensils, and glassware to prepare meals. Tremendously appreciated were John's detailed coverage of restaurants, pastry shops, regional delights, grocery stores, wines, shopping and transport systems. He also supplied cookbooks, historical books of Hungarian themes,Dvds, and even a few games to play. The location was just perfect, in that you are closed to a Metro stop and two grocery stores, and even a butcher shop next door. The apartment is surrounded by many restaurants and shopping areas. The central market was just a 5 minute stroll and the Danube, which was covered with ice floes is very nearby. As you can see, John Farago is a superb host who genuinely cares about providing the very best rental experience for his guests. Thank you so much John for your sincere generousity! We can't emphasize enough that this apartment was absolutely perfect. So much of what made our stay in Budapest so fantastic had to do with Jon's apartment. First of all the location is second to none, being so close to the beautiful neighborhoods and attractions of Pest, and very close to the city's tram lines. Jon's desire for his guests to have an authentic experience, highlighted by his booklets explaining the finer points of the city's attractions, food, and everything else it has to offer, were priceless. Every restaurant recommended was delicious, every attraction was fantastic. We would recommend this rental to anyone who wants a true home away from home.

My husband and I stayed at Olive for our four-day trip to Budapest this November, and it went so far beyond our expectations I hardly know where to start. From our first contact with John, he provided a wealth of information both about the apartment and about Budapest itself. We were met by a driver at the airport, arranged by John, who charges the same rate as a standard taxi but comes with a sign and knows exactly how to get to the apartment. He also coordinates with Ilona, the property manager, so that she meets guests at the apartment as they arrive. We got to the apartment, a little tired and bedraggled, to find Ilona had picked up a tray of fantastic pastries from the bakery around the corner. There were the basic components of a meal in the mini-fridge, and a bottle of Hungarian wine waiting. Coffee and tea were all stocked as well. The apartment is gorgeous, and includes free internet and phone (including free international calling) as well as a cell phone available for use in the city. The location is great as well, just around the corner from the metro station and a very short walk to the Danube. I can't say enough good things about our experience.

Delightful apartment with many thoughtful extras. I loved all the information on things to see and do in Budapest. Don't bother bringing a guidebook because there are many there. In August my partner and I spent a week using Apartment Olive as our base for exploring Budapest. Olive is a wonderful oasis between the two worlds of Budapest. Out the back gate is a quiet neighborhood dominated by the city and county halls. The streets are quiet, people walk their dogs, and around the corner at the Cafe Gerloczy, friends chat for hours over snacks and a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. Out the front gate is the glorious, if now somewhat unloved, Parisi Udvar, one of the most beautiful buildings in Budapest, smack in the middle of one of the busiest tourist and restaurant streets in the city. This block alone would give the traveler a good taste of the many faces of Budapest: hip, urban up to date city; struggling, grimy parts working to come back from soviet neglect; and glorious jewels of Budapest's glory days, some restored, some waiting for their turn. Olive herself is a delight, a cozy little apartment with a much bigger heart. The apartment itself is nicely decorated and very comfortable, but John and Jeanne, your hosts, make it so much more than that. Pastries, coffee, tea, groceries in the fridge. They even left me a birthday gift, John having noticed from my passport that I would have it just as I was leaving Budapest. And Olive's location in an inner courtyard means you can have all the energy, bustle and life that is Budapest at your fingertips, and then close a big wooden door to the courtyard and enjoy the sound of birds chirping. It's a lovely place to take a quiet break from your sightseeing or cafe hopping. And do try the Unicum. They sell tiny bottles of it at the great market hall. If nothing else, the entertainment value of watching your traveling partners taste is worth the price of admission.

We really enjoyed our stay at this apartment. The location of the 'Olive' is superb and it provides a quiet, homey base to explore Budapest. The apartment is not only well maintained and nicely appointed but the owners/manager do an excellent job at making it feel like home. Some food in the fridge, a bottle of wine, an espresso machine with coffee, a small library (with Budapest resources), their own detailed suggestions/recommendations for restaurants and ways to explore the city, and many more thoughtful details. Air conditioning, WiFi, a cell phone, a Voip phone for free calls to numerous countries. And, a real bonus if you are travelling for a while - a washing machine... Although the building is rather scruffy from the street, you enter one of the enticing Budapest courtyards leaving the noise of the streets behind. The only negative (and the only reason we didn't rate it as 'Excellent') is that the courtyard area was under construction (they are installing an elevator). So... a bit of noise and construction debris from that. I would guess that will be completed by early fall 2011 since it looked like they were well into the project. I suppose the other possible negative (it wasn't for us) is that the kitchen is small, so if you were renting for an extended stay and were planning to do a lot of cooking, you may miss having an oven. However, it does have an induction cooktop and microwave... We would stay there again and fully recommend it. Booking and coordinating the rental was very easy (we were a bit nervous as we'd never rented this type of accommodation before). It is an apartment that feels like 'home' and is a peaceful retreat - something very nice when spending long days exploring the busy city.

I booked this apartment after reading about it on Trip Advisor and it measured up to the hype in every way. One of the very best apartments we have stayed in anywhere in the world. Attention to detail is first class and i struggle to find anywhere for improvement. Olive will not disappoint.

Amidst the hustle-and-bustle of the Vaci Utca area of Budapest, behind thick wooden doors, you will find a courtyard, and as the door closes behind you, serenity fills the space that had been taken up by the city's energy. Turn toward the left and there she is: Sweet little apartment "Olive". I should have guessed what kind of reception I would receive upon first walking through her charming french doors and into her immaculate living room. I should have known that John and Jeanne would have arranged a plate of freshly-baked Hungrian pastries (Oh! Hungarian Pastries!). I should have expected fresh milk, eggs, cheese and more to be stocked in the refrigerator for me. The welcoming bottle of Hungarian wine waiting for me on the counter should not have been a surprise for me. After all, everything about my Email correspondence with John, had I been paying attention, would have lead me to assume the likelihood of such a first impression. And the fresh organic Turkish towels in the bathroom. The comfortable bed. The well-equipped and modern kitchen. The attention paid to so many details that would prove to help make my month-long stay in Budapest, in "Olive", so easy and comfortable. Free phone calls to the U.S. from the apartment's phone. A Hungarian cell phone for my use. Wireless Internet. Hd TV. U.S. and European Electrical outlets. An array of Budapest Guidebooks from the artistic and philosophical to the historical to the "best restaurants". I don't remember doing so, but I must have mentioned that I'd be celebrating my birthday during my stay, because when I returned home to Olive (and she quickly felt like a home) that evening, there was a bottle of wine waiting for me and a "Happy Birthday" note from John and Jeanne. No hotel stay has ever compared. You will be very, very well taken care of by John and Jeanne and the friendly people at Budapest Vacation Rentals. I'm sure of it.

We had a wonderful time in Olive. We prefer to stay in apartments rather than hotels when traveling to feel part of the city and also to have a place to relax after a day of sightseeing, and Olive provided everything we needed to be completely comfortable in Budapest. It was well-located -- very close to the subway station with a direct route to the airport, and within walking distance of many of the attractions and several subway stations. Budapest is a fantastic city, and one of our favorite restaurants was right around the block from Olive -- Pesti Lampas, where we had duck three ways. John Farago was incredibly helpful leading up to our trip -- and actually adjusted his schedule based on the days we needed the apartment -- with restaurant and attraction suggestions, and was also completely available for assistance when we were there. He checked in on us several times and made sure we had everything we needed. I would highly recommend staying in his apartments again -- for more than a couple, Olive would be a bit small, although doable, but it was perfect for our needs.

We loved our time at apartment olive! It's in a quiet, leafy courtyard. The master bedroom is clean and roomy, and the bathroom is newly updated. The owners leave plenty of information - recommended sights, reading material on Budapest, as well as written instructions for appliances, including a Nespresso machine. The location is unbeatable - walkable to tourist attractions such as the central market, Vaci utca, Cathedral, and Chain Bridge. There are two major metro stops within 5 minutes walking, and there is a 24 hour grocery store near by. You can't beat this - it's an amazing value. If it's available, book now.

First, prior to our arrival in Budapest, John was incredibly helpful (e.g., answering questions, sending information, arranging transportation from the airport). Apartment Olive itself is in a great location -- two blocks from a great restaurant, a short walk to Vörösmarty Square, and near a metro stop. Upon arrival, we found meats, cheese and pastries in the fridge and a bottle of wine on the table (along with a birthday note - very thoughtful). Anyway, we very much enjoyed our stay and would stay there again in a heartbeat. For the money, I doubt it can be beat.

We stayed for six nights. Glad we stayed at the Olive apartment. It had everything you want. Free phone to US, 24 hour computer access (with computer), refrigerator stocked with meats and cheeses, free good bottle of wine, family room, bedroom, great shower, etc. Convenient location, close to Deak square, major intersection for subway, buses, cable cars, great restaurants, markets, etc. The owner, John Fargo, is so nice. He fixed the mouse on the computer, which needed new batteries and then had to be re-synched. He recommended a great Italian place, Vapiano, within walking distance, and a great cafe, Gerloczy, a block away. We ate at Gerloczy 3 nights it was that good. Ilona was also very helpful. We did the walking tour, toured the parliament, took a bath, wined and dined, had a great time in Budapest. The only negative is that we stayed for six nights and I think we should get fresh towels and sheets at least once. Thanks to John. Great place to stay.

I recognize that giving across the board perfect rankings risks seeming not to take this seriously, but really, this apartment was essentially perfect -- and *well* above what I expected for the money. In addition to having the best shower I've ever seen in a place like this, the refrigerator was stocked when I moved in, and when I locked myself out one day (my own fault) the owner quickly took steps to get me a replacement key, without objecting or complaining. Really, you simply won't find a better place to stay in Budapest, at even significantly more money, and I fully intend to stay there on my next visit.

I have rented a few apartments in several cities in Europe and still there were so many wonderful surprises about Olive. Let me start with the amenities, the location, the welcome package. It is evident that a great deal of thought and effort have gone into this home away from home starting with the ease of the rental to the travelogue provided by the landlord. Everything is first rate. I would encourage anyone to stay in Olive or any of the apartments provided by Budapest Vacation rentals. Some of the things I liked about the apartment in addition to those above include the Voip phone service, the king sized bed, the many movies, the internet service.

This apartment is fantastic. Central location but on a quiet courtyard with trees. Furnishings are top of the line and no detail is spared -- guidebooks, Dvds, a well-stocked refrigerator etc. etc. John and his team do everything to make your stay comfortable. Olive is a welcoming place in the middle of a fabulous city. I can't imagine staying in Budapest anywhere else, unless it was another of John and Jeanne's apartments. (The shower, by the way, was so inspirational I'm trying to figure out how to replicate it in my own home.)

My wife and I and another couple just spent two weeks in Budapest at apartments Olive and Max. We stayed at Olive and our friends stayed at Max. We found both apartments to be completely user friendly and in excellent condition and exceedingly clean. We loved the fact that we were so close to all of the central attractions in Pest and close to both the Metro and Tram lines. As advertised they were plenty of great Hungarian restaurants nearby to choose from, and both neighborhoods were excellent to wander in and enjoy the local flavor. The amenities provided for in each apartment were first class and made our stays in these apartments extremely enjoyable. We would strongly recommended to anyone thinking of staying in Budapest to stay in apartment Olive or Max.

The lovely apartment Olive - a little gem! Although small, when the door is open onto the garden it's a very pleasant place. It had everything we required and it was just like walking out of my house to my pad in Budapest. We even had food and cakes waiting for us on arrival - really what more could one want? There is lots of information provided re the flat and Budapest which was absolutely excellent. There is also a great second hand bookshop about 2 streets away - the red bus bookshop - great range of english language books. I'd also give a plug for the C&A grocery store in the street - we found it had much better quality food than Match.

After staying at apartment Olive I have nothing but kind words for the apartment and its owners. I would without second thoughts recommend this apartment to anyone considering a stay in Budapest. The apartment is ideally situated in the city and I easily walked throughout the city with this as my starting location. Within the apartment, every possible step has been taken to ensure your stay is comfortable and memorable. From a library of guide books to a fully functioning kitchen, this apartment has everything you need to both enjoy Budapest and feel at home during your stay.

Olive is a fantastic apartment. It's absolutely bang in the centre of Budapest so we didn't have to get public transport once the entire 3 days we were there. Everything is walking distance. The apartment itself is beautiful- has all the 'mod cons' but its originality has been maintained and it still feels quite old. Everything was clean and the bed was really comfortable- there were 3 of us so we took turns sleeping on the pull-out couch. It was fine but not as comfortable as the bed...but really, a minor issue and the only thing I'd say about the place that wasn't 100%. Arrival and check-in were seamless- John arrived for his driver Alajos to collect us from the airport and he was early, waiting for us with a sign, which was lovely when you arrive somewhere and don't speak the language. Because we arrived late at night, Ilona did check-in with us the next morning and was really helpful. We all thought the apartment was great value, working out around €80 each for the whole weekend. But the best thing about Olive was the hospitality, and the personal touches John and his wife have added. When we arrived there were milk, cheese and eggs in the fridge, as well as some little cakes and even a bottle of wine for us. There was a whole range of lovely coffee and a coffee-making machine and we could help ourselves to everything. There are also guidebooks there that visitors can borrow, which is really handy. These small things were such a nice touch as it's obvious that John and his wife make a huge effort to make guests welcome and comfortable, and I've never come across it before. I'd recommend Olive to anyone- absolutely perfect for two people and perfect for three good friends too.

We chose "Olive” primarily because of its location, price range and the fact it was a flat on the main floor which we liked a lot. (we're in our early-mid sixties). It is beautifully renovated with all the accoutrements one would hope for and many surprises too! John and Jeanne have pretty much thought of everything right down to the Nespresso machine, a huge library of DVDs, which after walking 6-10miles every day exploring and getting to know Budapest, were a real G-d send for us. The suite was immaculate and just the right size for 2-3 people. (We were 2). It is ideally located in the very heart of downtown Budapest and within easy walking distance to most attractions. We hired a private tour guide to take us around for the first couple of days to get the lay of the land. After that, we were on our own and from where Olive is situated, one can get to nearly everything on foot-close enough that you can still come home for lunch and head out again to indulge your curiosities again. There were many wonderful and affordable restaurants within a five minute walk if you cared to treat yourself now and then. John checked in with us regularly to ensure that all was okay--which was very much appreciated and if there were any concerns, and there were barely any, he responded immediately and effectively. John and Jeanne are very dedicated to this aspect of their lives - very passionate indeed. The resource material in the flat is excellent and we spent a great deal of time reading not just the sightseeing books, but Hungarian cook books as well. Attention to detail is at an all time high and we would definitely rent with John & Jeanne again. It turned out to be the perfect choice for a lovely suite for us. Bon Voyage! I wrote a review, but so gushed on and on, the site would not accept the length! Now I have to cut out many of the wonderful things I said. All the other reviews as to the set up and super deluxe thoughtfulness and preparedness are true. I rented two apartments from the incredibly helpful and detail-oriented owner, John. He so graciously helped us in every step of the way. We were two adults and what I call four kids (really, young 20's). From the beginning I could tell that this would be a deluxe top of the line apartment rental experience and I have never had such a feeling of excellence in all aspects of the process. Nor has a host ever imparted such a love of a city and its people with quite obvious joy and wonder. I think John is compelled to help us all try to live and breathe a bit of the place he loves, to enjoy Budapest in all its intricacies and occasionally puzzling aspects. John came up with two or three different combinations/options of apartments for us, advising me as to what he could see as the pro's and con's of each possible scenario. I am so glad we went with one of John's suggestions--my husband and I would take (the very spacious) Andrei, and the four kids could all fit into the smaller but oh so lovely Olive. This was the best of everything. I was thrilled when we visited the kids at Olive and my son had made an incredible omelet all from the food stocked in the apartment. The nespresso coffee was really fun. The computer and the phones were invaluable. Read the other reviews for details and you'll see that renting from John is the ultimate rental experience . I read his Budapest Behemoth cover to cover while I was there--good thing as it the part about the thuggy looking ticket guys in the metro came in real handy! I cannot imagine returning to Budapest and not staying in one of John's apartments. I would change my dates to accommodate the schedule if need be.

Imagine a vactaion in a cozy apartment in the center of Budapest, just blocks from the Danube. Now imagine your every need is anticipated by owners Jeanne and John, from your morning Espresso to personalized dining and touring recommendations. The Olive apartment, short blocks from cafes, restaurants, grocery stores, the Danube River, and Vaci ut, is almost too good to be true. With modern bathroom and kitchen, and lovely antique furnishings, it is an oasis at the end of a visitor's day. I just spent 4 weeks at Olive, and hope to return in the future. I highly recommend it to singles, couples, and small families who want to experience "real Budapest" while having all the comforts of home.

I was collected from the train station late (aft 9pm) and met at the apartment by the manager. The apratment is quiet despite being in the centre of the city. There was milk, cheese, eggs etc in the fridge to get me going the next morning. The manager showed me how to use the PC (intenet), stove, coffee making machine, the DVD (in case you are bored with TV) also the location for chemist, bank (ATM) and supermarket, all very comprehensive and helpful for someone new to the city. Fully heated.. easy access to trams and underground and walking distance to shops. John the owner was in touch with me all through the Volcanic fallout to check on my arrival (delayed for nearly 2 days) to ensure I was being collected at the train station. One doesn't get this sort of personal service everyday. The driver also took me to the airport to ensure I got away safely and ontime. highly recommended

Staying in an apartment, as opposed to a hotel, when staying in the same city for more than a couple of days turned out to be a great idea. As with any European apartment/hotel, the place was cozy. The small kitchen had everything we needed: a small refrigerator for storing leftovers from all the great restaurants (great mid-night snack!), a stovetop and microwave for reheating, and a small washing machine. I like to pack light so the washing machine saved me from washing my clothes in the sink. The bathroom had a surprisingly sizable shower and was stocked with any necessities you would need: toothpaste, razors, etc. The queen bed was comfortable. One of the best amenities was the Nestle espresso maker. It’s one of those machines that only requires water and the “espresso pod.” Great idea. The place was even stocked with a variety of espresso flavors. We had tasty instant espresso to fuel our tourist activities and keep us going for the night life. The location was great; we were able to walk to most places. There were restaurants, shopping, and a subway stop very within a block or two. I’ll be looking to stay here again on my next trip!

My vacation in Budapest was greatly enhanced through my stay at Apartment Olive. I felt like I was able to gain a taste of how the locals live without giving up luxurious amenities that hotels offer. If I ever needed anything, John and his team were a phone call away. Every service that would enhance my stay was made available; from shaving cream, to a smorgasbord of travel guides on Budapest, to being provided with my own personal international cell phone. The combination of amazing customer service, a beautiful apartment, and a great city made my stay at Apartment Olive unforgettable.

When traveling on vacation with my family (specially with my 9 month old baby daughter) it is often difficult to find a place that would offer not only the amenities any hotel may, but also a comfortable atmosphere where the kids can feel at home. John and Jeanne's Olive apartment was the right place just to virtually and smoothly transfer the daily family life from Japan to Hungary. The Olive apartment received us with a fully equipped kitchen, a nicely decorated dinning-living rooms that included not only dishes and silverware but also the latest technology to provide tv, Internet and voice services like any other local person may have, and at not or very little cost. The prime location of the apartment is just great. You can find the Match and other little supermarkets where you can buy the same basic food and items I would normally buy in Japan. But the best is the nice walk from the Olive apartment to the Central Market on Vaci Utca. In the Central Market you can find the best fresh vegetables, sausages, fish, meats, spices and more, including the second floor artisan and gift shops. There are also several little eateries where locals gather for a chat while eating delicious local dishes. Even more, the apartment location put us just a few minutes walk from major cultural and architectonic attractions and events. In summary, my family and I found home in Budapest, and with the detailed manuals about just everything John has prepared anyone should be just enjoying and feeling like have lived in Budapest for a long time even though it may be your first visit.

I had read about these apartments a few places on the internet and can only agree with what everyone says - John provides wonderful service from the first contact! All the additional details he gives about the apartment and surrounding area really help to make the most of your stay. We found the most wonderful restaurant "Cafe Bouchon" through his reviews. The location of the apartment was perfect - in a quite courtyard, yet minutes from the main areas. The WiFi and computer were a great addition as we were able to Googlemap where we wanted to go! It was snowing when we stayed, but the apartment was cozy comfortable and warm (underfloor heating in the bathroom). I was worried that it was going to be too small, and while it is small, it is perfect for two people, with everything you might need (hairdryer, kettle, coffe machine, microwave, TV, DVD player, computer). The Nespresso machine was a lovely treat - I had no idea I liked coffee so much and want one for my house now! And having the basic fridge stuff supplied was a lovely touch (milk, eggs, cheese, butter, pastries and scones).

We had a perfect 4 day/ 3 night stay in appartment Olive. Especially its central location made it possible to see many sights in a relative short period. Located on the ground floor, in a quiet courtyard with trees, the apartment is very nicely renovated, but has kept original features, which makes it feel authentic and homely, as well as being perfectly comfortable. Reception, service and information is excellent. We would always like to go back, given the chance.

Even though we read all the reviews about the Olive Apt. nothing really prepares you for what you find when you open the door. The table holds a platter of sumptuous pastries, wine, staples in the fridge, teas, and a nespresso machine. If you have forgotten anything, it's there, hair dryer, toothpaste/brush, shoe polish, lens cleaners the list is endless. There are books on Budapest, games, John's own travel book on things to do and how to navigate the city, television, mobile phones etc. The apt. is in a lovely courtyard setting which was covered in snow when we were there. It was beautiful. Inside was well appointed and well maintained. Great location, close to everything. We felt as though we were in someone's home. John and his wife Jeanne have set a high bar when it comes to vacation rentals.

Olive is centrally located in a city that is a remarkably walkable. The easy access from this apartment, coupled with the owner's extensive research, provided for a wonderful few days in Budapest. We were met by a driver arranged by the owner and were in the apartment within half an hour of arrival at the airport. The apartment is a functional, yet relaxing space, a delight for two people. The television, phones, and internet access were easy to use and entirely hassle free; as were the stove, coffee maker, and heating system - all of the details which can hinder apartment rental while traveling. The apartment is comfortably decorated and kept incredibly clean. There were plenty of blankets, soaps, towels, even a healthy stock of coffee, shave cream, and other incidental items. Olive is located a half a block from one of Budapest's main shopping strees, the Central Market, and Danube are also a few mintutes away; providing ample opportunity for all sorts of strolls through the city. Even in Decemeber's chill we were able to walk and easily return to the apartment to warm and relax before heading out for the evening. The own provides a decade worth of research in the form of an easy to use guide. This took much of the mental legwork out of visit and we navigated the city very well within an hour or so. Much of this information surpassed the quips in the guidebooks. I would strongly suggest this location for a relaxing, informed, and hassle free visit to Budapest.

I ended up in Budapest as a bit of an afterthought and the only thing I would have changed would have been to stay two weeks at Apartment Olive instead of three days. Olive is set on a lovely, leafy courtyard in one of the oldest buildings in Budapest. The walls, at their thinnest, are two feet thick. The Danube River is two blocks to the west. Trying to find an apartment at the last minute via a shoddy internet connection in Vienna, I received a number of email responses along the lines of "I have apartment will rent." John Farago was both instantly accessible and enormously helpful. A self-described visitor who ended up staying, he has several apartments and sends you information and photos on each. I chose Olive both because it was available and because it was the smallest and best suited to me as a single traveler (though it could easily accommodate one or two couples). John let me know that there was some construction going on in the courtyard and that he wasn't planning to rent Olive out that weekend. He offered another, larger apartment at the same rate but I chose to stay in Olive instead and happily barely noticed the few workers in the courtyard. Absolute pluses: John recommends, in person and in a nice little PDF guide he has written, places to eat, shop, see, and go while you are there. I went to the market around the corner and loaded up on pate, sauerkraut, and wine. He had also left a very nice bottle in the apartment to get started with. Lovely things I wish I had in my own apartment, including an insanely good 200+ DVD collection, front-loading washer, and most importantly -- Nespresso machine. I had to use the instructions John left and now I am sold. Olive is within walking distances of most places you would want to go in Budapest, and right on the subway lines as well. Take John's taxi driver back to the airport particularly if you have a 6am flight like I did. I hope to come back here soon, and maybe never leave.

There is a lot to be said for truth in advertising, and in this respect the owners of Budapest Vacation Rentals deserve a medal. Olive is in the heart of the old city in one of the earliest apartment buildings built, most likely 10th century. History buffs or those who appreciate antiquity will love the wooden pegs by the arched entrance gate, thick walls, the old double windows and the airy courtyard. When fully renovated, the old apartment building will be beautiful. Apartment Olive itself is wonderfully modern on the inside, complete with all the amenities we expect for a comfortable stay in a home away from home. Not at all like a hotel stay. What impressed us most was that all the comforts of home were provided, plus a landline and cell phone, Wi-Fi, detailed instructions on how to use everything including foreign appliances, AND we were greeted with a bottle of wine, cold cuts, milk, butter, rolls and desserts. No need to bring travel books, BVR provides current books, brochures, and recommendations on nearby restaurants, suggestions on which sightseeing bus to take if one so desires. Be sure to sample the recommended restaurants. We walked everywhere, found it easy to navigate the city. Our host kept in touch with us through e-mail, which was most helpful. We used Alajos for taxi needs, he even waited patiently for us while our daughter's plane arrived, was always early, polite and helpful. Ilona, readily available via phone, was anxious to help when ever we needed something. The bed is extremely comfortable, perfect for one, for a couple, truth be told, the person sleeping on the inside needs to climb over the other one. This was not an issue for us but needs mention. The Danube is very close, public transportation easy to reach, but like the host recommends, walking is the best way to see the city. This was our 6th stay in Budapest, and the most enjoyable and comfortable. Thank you John and Jeanne for the thoughtfully prepared accommodations.

We found apartment Olive exceeded our expectations from its Meet & Greet at the Railway Station to the excellent liason person for any problems or advice, both these things make a big difference when travelling a long way from home. We loved the touches of fresh food in the fridge & welcoming pastries & coffee on arrival plus the supply of towels & toiletries in the bathroom. Plenty of coathangers, pillows & space in the layout plus cooling & heating as needed. The situation was really convenient for exploring Budapest & we loved our stay. Hope the builders finish soon & are more considerate in the future with their noise & working days over the weekends.

Apartment Olive is a superbly located, decorated and furnished studio apartment. It is managed by John Farago, of New York, who as an American is very sensitive to the issues faced, and comforts appreciated by, Americans traveling abroad, and has very successfully dedicated himself to addressing and providing for both. This starts with a wealth of information by email about the apartment and Budapest before you arrive, answering all questions you may have and even offering to help arrange for special requests, and then the apartment itself -- apart from being smartly furnished and decorated with all modern amenities is full of all types of comforts, from courtesy coffee and fresh pastries upon arrival, use of computer, internet (with Skype), and even a cell phone. All types of travel recommendations are also awaiting you on arrival. The apartment has a kitchen, laundry facilities, an ultra modern and clean bathroom, and all is very tastefully done. In short, all that you can want, and in style. If only I could find such accomodations when I travel elsewhere!

A comfortable and well-located base for exploring Budapest. Best for independent travelers who don't require the support services of a hotel. Space is suitable for a couple staying several days. Small kitchen allows option of preparing some meals. Apartment is appointed with amenities such as espresso machine and WiFi, which add to comfort. Many areas of Budapest are under renovation, including the building in which the apartment is located. This has potential to be quite stunning when finished. While we did not mind the construction and found some if it interesting, negotiating construction areas might be a challenge for some. We arrived by rental car, which required some extra effort to arrange for parking. The city is negotiable by public transportation and walking. Driving is not recommended for visitors. The apartment location is convenient to the main shopping street, including the large produce market. It's a short walk to the Danube and a longer walk to the castle and the baths. There is a nice selection of restaurants within walking distance. Metro stops are nearby, providing access to the rest of the city. The owners and team were very well organized, highly responsive in communication, and generally very supportive. It was a pleasure to interact with them.

My husband and I rented Apartment Olive for a week in mid-July. We rented several months prior so we had lots of very fun communication with our landlord. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the city, and provided us with about 60 pages of information which I referred to constantly while planning our itinerary. We were picked up at the airport buy a driver he recommended, and that was such an excellent idea. We were exhausted, didn't know the language and obviously didn't know the city. We were dropped at the gate to the courtyard (please be warned that there is a graffiti problem all over Budapest. Our driver assured us not to be worried when we first saw the gate - and he was so correct.) Once inside the courtyard, you are a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city despite the fact that you are directly in the thick of things. There was construction/restoration going on in the courtyard, but it didn't interfere with our good time as everything was totally cleaned up in the evening, and we were getting up early to start our days anyway. The apartment is as advertised -"cozy" - and immaculate, and a nice bottle of wine and some cheese and sausage awaited us. There is a phone there which enables you to call the US for free - a REAL plus since I had forgotten to have my phone prepared for international travels. The bed is amazingly comfortable, the shower is awesome with lots and lots of hot water, and the location is ideal. Once you leave the courtyard, you can literally walk all over Budapest. There is a little market a block away, where I shopped everyday, and there is an excellent cafe around the corner which we knew about from our landlord's information. We just had no idea we would frequent it almost everyday because of the convenience, service and delicious food. This was a perfect place for two people to be in the heart of downtown Budapest and yet be able to retreat to a quiet place for the evening. I would definitely go back!!!

Apartment Olive is a great little apartment. Very upscale in its decor. It has just about everything you need for you stay. Very comfortable, a nice surprise was that it has a PC that works on the flat screen TV. Great life saver since my 9 year old stayed with me and this way he could entertain himself with his online games when we were not out and about. Another wonderful feature was the free calls to the US. Everyone of the hospitality team with the apartment is very helpful and friendly. Ilona is very nice, and Alajos is a godsend for getting you around...... At any time..... We had a very early flight back and he picked us up at 4:45 in the morning. I even met John the owner and he is a wonderful helpful caring person! I would recommend this place it is very nice for one or two people

The apartment is perfect for a single or couple. It is spotless with a massively comfortable bed, a very generous shower, tv, a mac, a free voip phone and even a thoughtfully provided mobile phone (which you top up). I was greeted with cookies, bread, sausage slices, nespresso coffee and a bottle of wine. perfect. a quick nibble, a shower, out the courtyard into ... budapests thriving downtown. you're surrounded by restaurants (very good ones too), and you're a half skip away from the famous walking street. you couldn't better the location. If this was your pied a terre, you'd have it exactly like this: everything is at a high standard and there's been no chintzing for change. You won't miss the concierge - there's a very lengthy and useful document that's full of tips, suggestions, instructions for the appliances etc. I found it all ridiculously easy. Go. Enjoy.

Olive is a charming newly remodeled apartment in the heart of Pest. While in Budapest for an international legal conference, Apartment Olive was my home away from home. I had a marvelous stay. Located in a very quiet interesting courtyard in an older apartment building, Olive was an easy walk to all of the things I needed, I really enjoyed the amenities, the eclectic decorations, the high ceilings, the light, the internet, the fully equipped kitchen and the great shower. The bed was comfortable. I enjoyed the large cable TV in the living area. I had a chance to meet the owner John Farago, a charming and dedicated individual who takes great pride in the detail, cleanliness and efficiency of his units. The location and charm of Olive are particularly suited for a single traveler or a couple. I had a great time there and hope to go back.

Owner John Farago couldn't have made it easier for us to reserve a lovely apartment in Budapest. We made all of the arrangements via a couple of emails, and he provided spot on directions and many helpful recommendations. We were completely satisfied with our choice of Apartment Olive. The location--walking distance to nearly everything we wanted to do or see, including Roosevelt Sq., the opera, the market, good dining--made life pretty easy, as did the many "extras" at Olive. When we arrived the kitchen was already stocked with essentials, pastries and a lovely bottle of Hungarian wine. We especially appreciated the Nespresso machine which helped us get each day off to a productive start. The internet set-up also proved to be indispensible. Apt. Olive had all the comforts of home and was tastefully appointed. I honestly cannot think of anything I would have changed about the place. Bravo for a job well done.

Olive is in a perfect location at the heart of major European city. Moreover, it's beautifully decorated and it's affordable. John and Jeanne provide a wonderful package of amenities, including free use of a cell phone. It's also great to be able to make a cup of coffee at the apartment before you start your day's adventures in Budapest. P.S. Be sure to partake in the mineral spas of Budapest.

In my many visits to Budapest I have stayed in over 20 lodgings, from charming hostels to luxury spa-hotels. Perhaps the nicest experience to date was my stay at Apartment Olive. I feel the location (for my taste) is almost unbeatable: one block from Ferenciek tere (in the heart of downtown) with its M3 metro stop as well as many bus routes extending to both Pest and Buda. Since Apt. Olive is on the interior courtyard of an old, thick-walled building it is extremely peaceful - an oasis in the heart of the Belvaros (old inner-city). Furthermore, since the owner (John) thoroughly renovated this wonderful, high-ceilinged apartment to include all the modern conveniences, it may be described as an oasis within an oasis! Further adding to the convenience of the location, it is only a few meters from one of the nicest places in all of Budapest for breakfast, lunch or dinner: the Gerloczy Cafe. A hundred meters away are the classic Central Cafe, the historic Karpatia Etterem and many other places to eat. Apt. Olive is quite secure, so that is not an issue. Since it had its first guest (me!) only this year (2009) it is freshly painted with new furniture and appliances. The bathroom is yet another oasis - beautifully spacious and modern; it contains no bathtub, but rather a luxuriously large shower. The compact kitchen has everything one needs and the piece de resistance is unquestionably the extraordinarily convenient Nespresso machine for superb espresso whenever one wants. When it comes to television, there is not only a large flat-screen TV and DVD player, but also an excellent selection of DVD's - including Hungarian films. John also provides phones - not just a portable phone for the apartment, but a mobile phone to carry while you are sightseeing! And John is happy to answer questions promptly by Email. All in all, Apartment Olive is superb value for one person or a couple, and is also a terrific location from which to explore Budapest. Enjoy!

Tucked inside a peaceful courtyard in the heart of the old city, it is hard to imagine a better location for this style of accommodation. Apartment Olive is charming and romantic - exactly what we wanted from our stay in Budapest. The owner's attention to detail is unparalleled in our experience of Europe. They've really gone above and beyond to make sure that you not only have everything you need, but also that your stay is enjoyable. The airport pickup and key collection went seamlessly and the apartment manager (Ilona) was friendly & welcoming. Highly recommend this spot for your getaway in Pest!

Other reviewers have discussed the features of this charming small apartment In Budapest's fifth district. So suffice it to say that in addition to learning about the great location and primo amenities, there are a couple of other things you should know. First, take the time to read the booklet of restaurant recommendations you will find in the apartment. They are spot on, and you can't go wrong. Second, the hundreds of films/DVDs selected by the host are all excellent, and if a rainy day or jet lag keeps you indoors, any one of them would give a few hours of well-crafted entertainment. Third, the collection of guidebooks is well-chosen, although a few old ones could probably be updated with more recent editions. A couple of other things you should be aware of. These are not negatives, just things you should know when choosing the right accommodation. First, it is cozy, to use the word in the materials offered to prospective guests. Three people might really be a crowd, especially if they don't know each other intimately. Second, despite the comment of at least one reviewer, there is no clothes dryer. Instead, there is a sturdy drying rack, which is what many Hungarians use to dry washing. This is fine, except...Hungary is pretty humid and clothes do not dry all that quickly. It might take a couple of days, so plan ahead to avoid having to put damp clothes in your suitcase when it's time to leave. Finally, although the apartment is on the ground floor, there are a couple of steps. It's probably not suitable for someone who must use a wheelchair all the time or who cannot do any steps. If you do choose Olive as your base while visiting Budapest, you should have a great time.

Apartment Olive is like a Faberge egg - an exquisitely decorated and finished gem of an apartment sheltered from the street within a leafy courtyard, enclosed within a fine old building behind thick walls through an archway off a quiet street at the centre of the oldest part of Budapest. Walking into The Olive is to know you have come "home". The thoughtfulness and hospitality of the owner, John Farago, makes you feel welcome and immediately "at home" and comfortable. John arranged for our pick up at the airport with his regular taxi driver who waited for us patiently even though I had managed to choose the slowest queue at customs. After a completely sleepless 30 hours travel we were more than slightly deranged. Within minutes of closing the doors and settling into The Olive we felt completely relaxed. All the information John provided helped us get oriented. Everything is just a few metres away as the apartment is centrally located. I would especially recommend this apartment for people on their first trip to Budapest as John's hospitality instantly overcomes disorientation. The apartment is so perfectly equipped with all of the essentials provided by a host who totally understands the needs of travellers.

My friend and I stayed in Apartment Olive during a weekend trip to Budapest in September 2015. The place is cozy, well-furnished and equipped with most anything you could possibly think to need (especially in the wifi/international communications department). But the best part of the apartment is that it has been endowed with John's personal touch. If you are traveling to Budapest and decide to stay at one of John's apartments, then you will be endowed with his intimate knowledge of the city. John will not hesitate to give you great recommendations and tips directly, but his wealth of knowledge and love of Budapest also manifests itself in the apartments that he cares for and lives in. Apartment Olive felt like a celebration, or homage, to a city that John clearly loves. It's stocked with books and guides about the Budapest and Hungary. His attitude toward the city is infectious, and it will inspire you to discover all that the city has to offer. Don't be surprised if you end up falling in love with it, too.

We stayed in Apartment Olive for 8 days from 30 December 2015. There is so much to love about this apartment. The apartment is on the ground floor in a historic building with an interior courtyard. There is lift access for apartments on upper floors. The apartment is tastefully furnished with antiques. It is charming, cozy, quiet and comfortable. The shower was huge with a proper shower head not the hand held shower nozzles you see everywhere else in Europe. There were bound notes on every aspect of not only the apartment but also every conceivable question you may have when you are in Budapest from medical services to ATMs to dining suggestions and shopping. Our every need was taken into account - there were guidebooks galore; cook books; books about Hungary and other reading material. There was a washing machine; computer with internet access; hair dryer; various toiletries in the bathroom; towels if we had wanted to avail ourselves of the various thermal spas, all ready to go in a beach bag. There was a Nespresso machine with coffee pods, tea bags; dishwashing liquid; laundry liquid; mobile phone; local landline with free calls to the US and various other countries. Upon arrival we were greeted by the property manager who provided explanations regarding the apartment. To our delight, the fridge had been stocked with fresh smallgoods, butter, milk, pastries and cheese; a loaf of bread was on the counter and a bottle of wine on the shelf. The location is superb on Varoshaz Utca, close to transport links, restaurants, supermarkets and the shopping in Vorosmarty Square. It was within walking distance of the Jewish Quarter, the Great Hall markets, the Erszebet Bridge. It was close enough to the tourist hub to access the various restaurants and sites yet far enough away to feel like you were part of everyday life in Budapest. Even when just making enquiries, John the owner, replied within hours to any enquiries we had about the apartment and Budapest itself. John was available at any time throughout our stay to answer any questions we had. Apartment Olive was also unbeatable value. We loved our stay in Budapest and Apartment Olive so much that we are already planning our next visit. Hopefully the secret of how great this apartment is won't get out and it will still be available for our next visit.

On arrival we found Apartment Olive to be a small comfortable well equipped apartment with good security. There was a welcoming small supply of provisions in the fridge which was greatly appreciated. You will even find a spa bag with towels for a relaxing day at the hot-spring baths. Wi-fi, a computer, phones and power adaptors were available and John had provided a folder which contained a wealth of information for getting around Budapest. The location of the apartment is great. We used public transport only twice during our week in Budapest. Turn R) and walk a few metres to the main road, turn R) cross the road at the pedestrian lights there is a supermarket and a large bakery next door. Turn L) out the door and a few metres down is a supermarket, turn L) again and walking down towards the river you will find a street full of restaurants and fashion shops. There are so many interesting places within easy walking distance of Apartment Olive, such as the Market Hall and Parliament House, as well walking over the bridges to Gellert Baths and Buda Castle. There are excellent views of the city from Buda castle and the museum is certainly worth a visit. I have no hesitation in recommending Apartment Olive as a comfortable place to stay, in an easy location for getting around Budapest. Many thanks John, we enjoyed our stay in Apartment Olive and had a great holiday in Budapest.

We had a great stay in Budapest in this apartment. It is really cozy and the furnishing of the apartment is really thoughtful, there is basically anything you could possibly need. The apartment is really close to the centre, and right next to a metro station, but it is still really quiet and you can't hear anything of the busy city surrounding you. I would book it again anytime!

We had booked Apartment Olive but there was construction in the apartment courtyard, so John recommended another of his apartments Andrei, where we stayed for six nights. The apartment was large and comfortable, well-supplied with everything we needed for a great stay in Budapest...including Nespresso machine, coffee, milk, eggs, bread and pastries. John provides great recommendations on everything from restaurants, to transportation options, to his favorite things to do in Budapest. If we ever have a chance to return, I will want to stay in one of John's apartments. Maybe Olive next time!
