Allamanda - Walk to the Beach

Allamanda is a traditional Nevisian style house overlooking Oualie Bay on the island of Nevis. It has stunning views across the sea to St Kitts and classic Caribbean sunsets to enjoy every night. Built on Round Hill, this imposing yellow house stands tall, among the tamarind and palm trees inviting the discerning holidaymaker - wanting a tropical island paradise. Green vervet monkeys will entertain you in the evenings beside the house!
Built on two floors, the top floor is an open plan, comprising a large living room with dining area, breakfast bar and full kitchen. Amenities include free internet, cable TV, and a stereo. Two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms are located off the main living area. The veranda has breathtaking views overlooking the sea with comfortable bamboo furniture and a dining table.
The lower floor, adjacent to the 24 by 12 ft. swimming pool and sun deck, has a double bedroom with extra bunk beds and an en-suite bathroom. There is also a laundry room with washer and dryer. There are ceiling fans throughout and all bedrooms are air conditioned.
A housekeeper is available twice a week and will cook for you, if desired, and the pool and garden are professionally maintained. Upon request, the house can be stocked with your favorite libations. Ground transportation, including a rental car, can be arranged for your arrival and departure to the airport in either Nevis or St. Kitts.
It is a two minute walk to the beach complete with a small beach resort, bar and restaurant, spa, watersports, and water taxis to St. Kitts. A five minute drive to the north puts you at the airport and the renowned Nisbeth Plantation; fifteen minutes to the south is the Four Seasons Resort with championship golf. Excellent restaurants abound on the island.

My extended family just spent four weeks at Allamanda. It is easily one of the best villas on Nevis. The veranda has an incredible view. Every night the sunset was not to be missed. Three bedrooms were great for us, especially with the AC. The bedding was very good. The kitchen was fully equipped. The refrigerator was a little temperamental but I understand a new one is on the way. The cleaning woman, Hema, was a delight. She worked hard, was very friendly, even showing us around Nevis and giving us hints on where to get what. Ian, the property manager, was available for any difficulties we might have had. Down below the villa is the Oualie Beach Resort. It is a great resource to have for eating and music on Tuesdays. Everyone on Nevis is so friendly. All are eager to help when you are trying to find someplace. Nevis has so many high quality restaurants. Yes, they are expensive. Almost everything needs to be imported. Food stuffs come in by ship on Tuesdays, so shop at the markets on Tuesday afternoons. We found a couple of large markets in Charlestown. No, not like the States, but you can get the staples for cooking in your villa to keep costs down. As an aside, we did have trouble keeping milk fresh. A couple of days and we had to throw away. Driving on the left side was not too bad. There is really only one main road around the island with others unpaved. Driving in Charlestown can be difficult. Very narrow roads, uneven stone walls lining the street, cars parked in one lane, and folks walking on the road create some obvious difficulties. An unusual problem are the goats, donkeys, and cows wandering around. Drive carefully. Back to the villa. I loved the pool. It is very good for children as well. Fully fenced, it can protect your little ones. The pool was cleaned almost twice a week as was the villa. It is almost impossible not to relax sitting on the veranda and looking out over the Narrows to St. Kitts. Things take time on Nevis. Dinner can take awhile. You will get used to it. The beach across the street is really one of the best. Pinney's is also good with a few beach restaurants there. Enjoy Nevis. The villa Allamanda will help you have a wonderful relaxing time.

My extended family have visited twice now, so thats a great start to any reveiw!!! A lovely and homely villa in a choice location, it ticked all our boxes with an incredible view of sunsets to savour, along with a gin and tonic, of an evening on the veranda. Both lounge and bedrooms were very comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped indeed. No need for air con (although the units are in every room) since the ceiling fans are efficient and quiet (but I am told thats where Brits differ from Americans!!). Ian manages any day to day issues with aplomb and a doze of dry wit and Hema was just wonderful at keeping the place tidy and is a real mine of useful info for visitors....she is a delight. A 2 min stroll will take you to Oualie Beach and a simply wonderful beach and bay for an early morning dip. If that doesnt appeal then the swimming pool at Allamanda is excellent! Nevis is a great and relaxing location but it is expensive to access the island and eat when you are there, not helped by a poor exchange rate in late 2016. The upside is that there are at least two good supermarkets in Charlestown if you want to eat in and keep costs under control. We usually hire cars on vacation and Nevis is no exception, BUT watch the driving since the locals have an fairly relaxed form of road sense and will pull out, stop for a chat, or go slow with zero warning. I will not drone on about Nevis itself, the tourist info does a good job and there are loads of eco and sporty things to do and Nevis is marketed as such...there is even a Nevis triathalon and a Try a Tri for the beginners..brilliant! Oh! and a great bike hire at Oulaie Beach...just ask for Winston!!!! Allamanda is an ace place to savour Nevis and the Caribbean...all you need do is relax and enjoy!!!!.

Allamanda is a beautiful, well appointed home with terrific sunset views. 3 Master bedrooms with king size beds were very comfortable with the downstairs room having an extra bunk for kids. Allamanda is a 1 minute walk to Oualie Beach which is a comfortable local beach, but you will probably want to rent a car to see more of the island. The house comes with an offsite caretaker and housekeeper both of whom are very friendly and helpful in arranging transport and doing some cooking if needed. All in all a great place and vacation!

We loved our first trip to this little island and would definitely return for another visit sometime. There were a few issues that needed to be fixed upon arrival to the house, and it seemed these were due to the hurricane coming through in September and the fact that we were the first guests to stay at the house in six months. A fuse had blown and affected the hot water heater, so there was no warm water for showering, and the laundry machines were also affected, plus there was a (very minor) plumbing leak, and the propane had not been turned on, so the stove & oven wouldn't ignite until we figured out the issue and took care of it. However, the property manager (Ian) was extremely helpful and in touch, responding to our emails right away and getting the problems fixed within the first couple days so we could enjoy the rest of our week. He even went out of his way to make sure our kids had fun: he let them borrow some picture books that belonged to his children when they were young, and gave them a ride in the back of his pickup truck partways up the mountain (past a family of semi-wild piglets!) to the beginning of the Water Source Trail, where we hiked up to a scenic viewpoint (about 45 minutes). We appreciated the pool at the house, the ability to cook over half our meals there during the week instead of eating out, and the collection of board games for our kids to discover. It's a beautiful island and we will definitely be back!
