Stayed here with friends and family for a week in early August. Weather was changeable but typically Scottish. This was more than compensated for by the stunning location and facilities at Taigh na mara. With the children kitted out in wetsuits and buoyancy aids we spent many hours on the water. Having taken an inflatable and outboard for the ' big kids ' to fish from we were set for a perfect week. Catching and eating numerous mackerel proved a hit with all. The house is recently modernised to a high standard and the rooms are all luxurious and wanting for nothing and all with fantastic sea views. If there is one slight minus it is that there a few too many reminders of the owners belongings as if they have moved out and allowed you to 'borrow' their home. We have had numerous self catering holidays around this area and this place is up there with the best. We will be back!

The house itself was very nice, cosy and we laid out for us. A few wee things could have been better, sharp knives would have been good, two of the toilet seats were broken but still usable with care and, as in other places we have been, more explicit directions for rubbish recycling, we tried to do our best and my husband took all 3 bins out as they were full. Also there was no instructions on what to do with the bedding etc when we were leaving. Although we had been to the area, it was 35years ago and maybe a wee brochure indicating places of interest with directions would also have been helpful. All in all we enjoyed our time in Kames, it brought back many happy memories. Thank you

Our family of 8, aged from 20 to 84 thoroughly enjoyed this house. Its location right on the water gave private access to the rocks & pebbly beach which was amazing. We saw an otter playing around the rocks we'd climbed on earlier when the tide was out and we saw him a couple of times, although late at night & very early in the morning. We saw a seal as we were having breakfast at the picnic tables, not even a stones throw from the house. 2 porpoise or small dolphins had a really good play under the sitting room windows one morning & could be seen at various places throughout the week , sometimes with binoculars and sometimes without. There are a pair of oyster catchers that spent all week sunbathing on the peer when the tide was in & inspecting the beach at low tide. The gannits could be seen at all times of day diving down into the water for fish. It isn't just wildlife you see from the house either as the Waverley paddle steamer went by on the Wednesday with half of us on it waving at the house & half waving from the beach and also a Hercules plane flew up the water a couple of days. Anyway the house... All the bedrooms are a fair size, all with great views and the beds are comfy. The downstairs ones had a strange smell the 1st couple of days but think that's just because it had been closed up maybe. It's clean and tidy throughout. With ample seating in all rooms and a table in the sunroom & sitting room means games can be played in all rooms, if you can pull your eyes away from the view. We were going to eat out a lot but the house is so nice we stayed in quite a bit and the bbq area came into its own as we had the hottest weather Scotland has seen in years. The gardens are on 4 levels. The top one is accessed through a high gate into the front where the cars are parked or steps from the level below, it has a lovely long bench and beautiful flower border & bird feeder (bird seeds & nuts can be bought at Kames village stores along with most other things) with high fence round so very private. The 2nd level has picnic benches & 2 recliners and can be accessed from the sun room or steps from the top garden. There is also a small area that goes out of the other patio window on the other side of the sun room but looks pretty unused. The BBQ is on this level under a shelter which was very much appreciated due to the 27 - 30 degree heat we had...all week! There are narrow steps from here down to the decking area, with an unused fishpond and 2 lovely wooden benches made into the wallside. From here you can make your way down over various rocks and stones to the pebbly beach when the tide is out. I don't know if this is usual but every day there were various shaped & coloured beautiful jellyfish in our beach every day but theday we left there must have been over 400. My husband gave up counting when he got into the 90s & he was only looking at a small section. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house, regretted not booking 2 weeks and are already looking to see when we can come again. Note the track down can be rocky & bumpy but so worth it. The little kitchen & post office at the top of the lane sell amazing food & are really friendly, I suggest you go there early in the week & you'll go back, as we only went in at the end of our holiday for breakfast before we drove home & wish we'd known how friendly & nice everything was there before
