Martha's Farmhouse - Uganda's favourite country house

Located in Genda, a traditional village in Mukono district, Martha’s Farmhouse is a high-end country home offering unexpected comfort, as well as plenty of fresh air, relaxing tropical gardens, dedicated staff, glorious views and a private pool. Built on ancestral family land, we are surrounded by an acre of tropical and scented walled gardens, and situated within a fifteen-acre coffee and banana plantation.
We deliver something completely different – the sense of being miles away and yet we are just an hour’s drive from both Kampala, Uganda’s lively capital and Jinja, where The Nile starts its journey. We are also in easy reach of Uganda’s main airport at Entebbe.
Martha’s Farmhouse has been sensitively and attractively furnished, combining both Ugandan and European styles. A large, high-ceilinged and airy open plan living and dining room take up the centre of the house, with bedroom wings on either side.
Our location takes full advantage of the views across the valley to tea plantations and guests can relax on our large verandahs, snooze in a hammock, potter in the garden or visit the farm. We have also just finished building our swimming pool which is so popular with guests.
Each of our three double bedrooms will guarantee you a comfortable stay. The master bedroom spans the width of the house, with french doors at either end, opening on to private verandahs. As well as a king-size four poster bed, the suite has comfortable sitting and dressing areas. Its bathroom has a full-size bath and twin basins and leads on to a separate, semi-open air, shower room. The second and third bedrooms are similarly comfortably furnished, each with four poster beds, a shared bathroom has a large, walk-in shower.
Because the privacy and comfort of our guests is paramount, Martha’s Farmhouse is only rented in its entirety. Our guests come to unwind, get away from the city noise, find a quiet place to work or simply enjoy wide-open spaces.

Stayed at Martha's Farmhouse twice in January. Its extremely comfortable and very well located for visiting Kampala and Jinja - and perfect for lazy days reading on the verandah. Thanks for Charlie and Norah for making my stay so happy. I'll be back!

At Martha’s Farmhouse, we felt really welcomed, cared for and relaxed. It is true what they say about the place being relaxing! The team was also very welcoming, thoughtful, paid attention to every detail, was attentive and yet respected our privacy. I strongly recommend it and will visit again when I return to Uganda”.

That is the meal we had for lunch today at Martha's and what a meal it was. The kind of meal you eat with relish and wish never comes to an end. The goat luwombo was so aromatic and tender the meat just melted in your mouth. The free range chicken was, well what can I say about that chicken?!? Fantastic. The accompanying steamed vegetables were incredibly fresh and thankfully the chef made a wise choice not to overwhelm them with spices. Don't let the fancy tableware fool you guys, there was nothing pretentious about this meal. Just authentic village fare at its yummiest. Kudos chef Nora!!!!!

Do you desire to hold adventure in one hand and serenity in the other? Martha's Farmhouse is pristine; a place where you're rejuvenated, refreshed and recharged. My friends and I had the most worthwhile experience, overlooking the vastness of Uganda's green landscapes, while enriching our emotional and physical lives.

A fantastic place to unwind with scenic views, exceptional customer service and housekeeping, passionately prepared gastronomic food from locally sourced produce and not to mention a well-kept swimming pool. When I last visited with 6 friends, we asked for tents for us to sleep out on the well-manicured lawn at night, and the staff were able to provide them at short notice. Would so recommend a stay here.

Now this is what i call a getaway. Close enough to town yet feels like a whole other world. Its a haven of shades of green and blue (the plants, sky, pool). I woke up and immediately wanted to go back and sit outside and soak up all that the environment had to offer. Please note that we arrived at 8pm and sat outside on the porch until 1am. That is by far one of the top 10 places I want to be...right now! That porch right there. Norah put so much thought to the menu and she delivered an amazing spread for lunch, that was tailored just for us. I can't recommend this place enough. Just what the doctor ordered for this tired mom!

Better than most boutique hotels. The staff were all excellent and the owner Keith went out of his way to ensure our stay was comfortable. A brilliant stay and will happily visit again.
