Kiboko Nyumba, holiday villa in Watamu

Kiboko Nyumba is the realisation of our dream to build an eco-friendly family home in one of the most beautiful locations in the world. It is a stunning four bedroom Swahili-style house spread over three floors with spectacular, panoramic views over the surrounding area. Set in one acre of land the house enjoys a large 10m x 8m swimming pool with an outside eating area, a spacious roof terrace with bar for relaxing and watching the sun go down and is surrounded by tropical gardens with fruit trees and coconut palms.
This 700 m2 house has 4 large en-suite bedrooms and an open plan living area with a 52" plasma TV, satellite channels.and Wi-Fi connectivity. There is a downstairs shower room and a fully fitted kitchen. There are refrigerators and water coolers at the bars on the ground and top floors. All the windows are unglazed to take advantage of the sea breeze and all rooms have ceiling fans. The master bedroom opens directly onto the top terrace and as well as having an en suite with twin sinks it also has a large dressing room.
The house comes fully staffed with a chef, housekeeper and gardener as well as a night time askari. Our friendly staff will be on hand to help make your holiday as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. The house is fully alarmed and has G4S security around the clock.
The house is a 10 minute walk from the white sands of the Watamu marine reserve where you can go kite surfing, snorkeling or scuba diving among the coral, or enjoy some of the best deep sea fishing in the world. Local fishermen will come to the house with their daily catch which includes king prawns, lobster and tuna. These will then be cooked to your taste by Allan our experienced chef.
Other local attractions include Watamu Turtle Watch, Gede ruins, Bio-Ken snake farm and the Arabuko Sokoke nature reserve. Tsavo East, Kenya's largest game park, is just a 2 hours drive away.

We just got back from here and had the most incredible time. The staff on site were very friendly and knowledgeable. The chef cooked amazing food. Getting around was made simple as was booking trips & restaurants as the guys were able to offer good advice and arrange everything. The house is like your own little pocket of paradise! Highly recommended!

Spent a week here and had such a wonderful time! The house is so lovely! And the environs very peaceful and quiet. The staff were very friendly and always ready to help. And we enjoyed having the resident dog, Fox around. :-) A great getaway, didn't want to leave. Will most definitely come back!

It was such a great experience. There is such a solid team, vibrant, full of respect and devoted. We enjoyed every bit of it and would like to come back again and again! Will also sent word to many others that may wish to come for holidays at the Coast...Kiboko Nyumba in Watamu is the place to be. There is a great ambience, hygiene, security, management, kitchenette and all are just awesome! End/Begin your year in style at Kiboko Nyumba where you will do excursions to view, play with Dolphins and many more!

Volveremos!!!!

The house was just great for our family - a group of 11 adults and 1 kid. The pool was amazing, and the room at the top level with the open space was enjoyable. The beach is very near and the staff were friendly. Great Time, and highly recommended

On the whole we were disappointed and could not recommend Hippo House to anyone. This is coming from Kenyan residents who have a very good feel for what to expect from an Airbnb/holiday house in Kenya and from overseas guests. The House manager was nowhere to be seen on arrival or on check-out. No one helped us settle in, show us round, give us an introduction or help take bags to rooms etc. Overall, the house did not run efficiently. The staff needed direction every step of the way from preparing meal plans to writing shopping lists etc. Other houses we have stayed at seem to manage things far better and anticipate what might be required and when resulting in a much more relaxing experience. - Wifi - did not work properly for most of our stay. It can't be described as "business grade" wifi as it is on your website. - Cleanliness - the kitchen was filthy. The fridge looked like it had never been cleaned. We found out on about day 3 that the staff had failed to buy in any kitchen spray to keep the surfaces clean and were using vinegar instead. Likewise, it was the guests who pointed out to staff that the dishwashing liquid had run out and more needed to be bought otherwise the dishes would not be properly cleaned. The pool for the first 3 days and was completely green. There was some improvement after the house manager cleaned it, but to be honest it still wasn't great and we were worried about the kids spending too long in there. - If the cleanliness of the pool wasn't bad enough, the house manager then decided to burn a huge pile of waste in the garden that then proceeded to blow across the pool and into the house for the remainder of our stay. Again it was so bad at times that we had to leave the house. All in all, we spent about 10% of the time I thought we would in the house enjoying the pool because it really wasn't that enjoyable for a lot of the time. - Towels - we were never given enough towels for the number of guests we had even after we asked for more to be provided. - Living space on top floor - we couldn't really use the best space in the house because the fridge didn't work and the electricity was so weak the fans didn't really work. - Back up power - we have discussed this. It was disappointing that the house manager only called an electrician out when we suggested he did so after the fridge and freezer had been off for some time. We get that power outages happen all the time in Kenya, but the back-up generator should work and if it doesn't the fundi needs to be on speed dial!
