avatar Perfect vacation
Rating: (5) rate
We wanted to get away, relax and see and show the nature of Lapland to our son-in-law. And not to be in an tourist place. Heikki was a very good guide. He knows the nature and showed special things like an eagle in the distance. The nature enchanted me totally: the quiet, peace and simple beauty. The Cabin is so beautiful and well planned; a little bit of luxury with sauna-gowns and menu with reindeer-meat and salmon. I have not done much hiking with a backpack, but it went surprisingly well, though the men carried heavier loads. Travelling with ATV made me nervous, because my husband and son in-law had never driven such, let alone in a difficult terrain. I travelled in Heikki`s bigger vehicle.

avatar A time of refreshment in the adventurous Lapland
Rating: (5) rate
We spent 5 days in the breathtaking nature of Lapland barely touched by human. The time was refreshing both physically and mentally. Heikki took us on a hike from the vast golden-yellow birch forests swarming with wildlife to the rocky, barren hilltops where the wind roars free. Among the hills and valleys we walked miles up and down following ancient rivers of stone; drank fresh, hot coffee from our kuksa's boiled above the glimmering wood of our cracking campfire. We hiked through old swamps lasting miles and miles fallowed by the curious eyes of reindeer´s running by, ravens and earth-eagles circling above. The cabin sight was excellent. A perfect display of luxurious simplicity with top quality equipment and utilities. We will definitely want to return to this place once again.

avatar Amazing hunting experience with professional guide

I really had memorable and personalized experience – silence, wilderness, Northern Lights, traditional Finnish sauna, excellent food, wine ... and amazing hunting experience with professional guide.

avatar Wonderful Northern Lights Experience
Rating: (5) rate
We Arrived at our accommodation after a picturesque Sledge ride across the fells from a local farmhouse. The Wilderness Lodge itself provides great Food, Excursions, Hospitality & Surroundings, in a secluded tranquil location. Our hosts, Heikki & Anna provided a warm welcome, were super attentive during our stay, tailoring everything to our needs; nothing was too much trouble. The all-inclusive stay provided activities such as cross country skiing, sledging, snowshoeing and hunting; the personal transportation to and from Ivalo Airport saved the worry of car hire and snow driving. And special thanks for the magical scenery and wonderful display of the Northern Lights !

avatar Complete plug-off in an amazing wilderness
Rating: (5) rate
We were a company of four guys looking for a combined hunting and fishing extended weekend. Couldn't have found a better choice. Starting at 8 am at Helsinki we reached the cabin around 4 pm, extremely fluent taken the last 15 km were an icredible off-road experience in heavy duty 4-wheel and even 6 -wheel drive vehicles. Catching trout from a picturesque creek, hiking to a beautiful riverside site, camping overnight and hunting for ducks, fox and willow grouse on the way back was all we came here for. Sauna baths and deliciious dinners every night finalized the experience. Heikki & Anna, Thank You so much!

avatar Superb hiking trip with extraordinary finale at the lodge
Rating: (5) rate
Heikki designed our gorup of nine a wonderful 4 day hike in the national park, with an excellent dinner and sauna at the end. The place is unique and extraoridnary, a luxury lodge literally in the middle of nowhere. Even the trip with ATV back to the closest road was an uniques experience!

avatar Wilderness hike with great service before and after
Rating: (5) rate
Confirming Jukka's review below. 4-day hike in one of the most remote corners of Europe, made accessible by Heikki's high-quality service. Pick-up at airport, drop-off at head of trail, sauna & dinner at the end and transport back to airport. Heikki even diplomatically put up with our not-so-sophisticated lip & singing during the final banquet; extra points for that.

avatar Memorable vacation at "Into the Wild"
Rating: (5) rate
We spent 5 memorable days at "Into the Wild" in September 2016 and enjoyed the beautiful landscape and especially the company of two warm hearted hosts, Heikki&Anna and their lovely Husky Dufe. If you really want to get away from the normal routine and the hectic times you should spend some time with them in the wilderness. The cabin "Into the Wild" is 1,5 hours away from the next village only reachable by ATV or walking. Therefore getting there was already a lot of fun. We loved the fact of having only nature around us. Our stay left nothing to be desired. They prepared delicious meals for us and we could just live in the days. Anna cooked gluten free for me and I really felt like being in heaven because I could eat everything without paying attention. We were exploring the surrounding on daily walking trips with them and while taking a break Heikki did a campfire and we could watch the reindeers walk nearby, drank freshly cooked coffee and ate grilled sausages. In the evening we relaxed in the finish sauna which is right next to the cabin. Anna&Heikki made every day to an adventure. Thank you for these special days.

avatar Magical Christmas
Rating: (5) rate
We were priviledged to have a memorable Christmas with Heikki and Anna in the wilderness. The nature is pristine and exceptional. We were lucky enough to see a wonderful Northern Lights display and enjoyed exploring under Heikki and Anna's expert guidance. The wonderful surroundings were enhanced by Heikki and Anna's exceptional attention to detail and kindness during our stay. Thier patience towards novices in the environment was astounding. All in all this made for a truly special Christmas. We came as guests and left as friends.

avatar A once in a life time experience you will want to do more than once!
Rating: (5) rate
The cabins at Into the Wild is really situated in the wild. We were well away from any towns and experienced Lapland authentically. We were treated with warmth and our every need was catered for. Anna prepared three fresh and beautiful meals for us every day and Heikki taught us to toboggan, cross-country ski and walk on snow shoes. Our hosts made the most of every day light hour and we always felt welcome and pampered. The sauna and dressing room are exquisite and we loved running from the snow into the hot sauna where we could relax in the heat and steam. Duffa (the huskey) made us feel right at home and our hosts played in the snow with us, building snow forts, making snow lanterns and having snow fights. The Northern Lights were everything we hoped and the landscape and countryside was simply mind-blowing. We could not have had a better time.

avatar It was the best experience I've ever had! My stay here was simply magical.

I've never felt as peaceful as I have when I was in the wilderness. My stay in this cabin is one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had so far. The place is in the middle of nowhere. It was winter so the whole place sparkles at night when the moon is out. It's magical. We stayed here for 3 nights and 2 out of the 3 nights, we were super lucky to witness the majestic display of the northern lights. You can see it right next to the cabin! We didn't even need to chase it! All we needed to do was wait for the darkness of the night to takeover and for the clouds to clear and we were able to see it. The northern lights are amazing! It looked like thin, neon green, transparent satin dancing across the pitch black sky. It was so beautiful, truly magical. During the day, we did skiing, snow shoeing, and sledding. My favorite part of the day were the meals. Anna and Heikki prepared all our amazing meals. Everything was delicious! Oh I also love our baths because the sauna is soooo relaxing! They have a dog named Duffe. She's the most adorable part siberian husky, part alaskan husky in the world! She played with us and she's always with us during our day activities. I miss her dearly. Heikki and Anna lives a very sustainable life in the wilderness. They hunt and fish for their food. They use solar and wind energy to power the cabin. During my stay in their lovely cabin, I've decided that it was the same life I want to live in maybe 5-10 years. And that's my new life goal. They inspired me. This trip truly changed my life. I actually took photos and videos of the whole place because I liked the design of the whole cabin. It was very cozy and homey. Oh I miss this place. I'll definitely comeback maybe around spring so I can try to go hunting with Heikki or hiking and berry picking with Anna. Hope to see you three soon! :)

avatar Amazing and unique place!

Spent 4 days with our kids in "into the wild" with Heikki and Anna . enjoyed every minute. This was certainly a unique experience . the place is so remote, getting to the cabin takes about an hour ride with a snowmobile from Karigasaniemi village . This area is the true Lapland... no neighbors at all and no distractions... The place suits people who seek serenity , pure nature and peace of mind while having the opportunity to combine some physical activities according to ones wishes. Heikki took care of all we needed and took us around snowshoeing, cross country, ice fishing, building a snow cave, we watched the free reindeers herding in the area, spotted wild animals foot prints and had a wonderful sauna at the end of everyday. Anna is a wonderful and charming woman.she prepared such delicious meals. we tasted most of the local famous lapish dishes cooked by her and Heikki. We also had some interesting discussions with Anna and Heikki and heard and learned more about Finland and the area we visited. The cabin is wonderfully designed and is warm and cosy and has all the facilities one needs. The place is amazing. It will suit a family or a group of close friends.

avatar Best kept secret in Finland!
Rating: (5) rate
This all began as part of my brothers 40th birthday gift. I asked him where in the world did he want to go? Thinking he would pick a warm climate place, I was all in! Well, he decided on seeing the Northern Lights and didn't want to go Iceland, Norway, or Sweden. Instead he wanted to go Finland! I literally knew zero people who ever traveled outside of Helsinki, so we picked up a lonely planet and started to digest the different areas and what Finland had to offer. After several months of researching I get an email from my brother about this place he found through Trip Advisor "Into the Wild"... It literally hit on all aspects of what he was looking for. In the middle of nature, comfort, activities, and so much more. From the photos and descriptions, we knew that this would be an adventure and place that we could disconnect from the world and be in touch with nature. So... 1) It is literally the most beautiful place you will ever go!!! We went in early March, which was really cold for two guys from Los Angeles. But we were well informed by Heikki what to bring, and they had overalls and snow boots to help with activities. 2) The main cabin/lodge is incredible! So comfortable, beautiful, inviting, and truly a feeling of being at home. From the second we arrived on the snow mobile, we felt like this was exactly the place we needed to be! Beds were so comfortable! Sheets and blankets were perfect! Always the perfect temperature inside. It was perfect! 3) When it comes to food, I have traveled the world and hands down, this was an experience! You can't imagine what its like to come back from a 3 hour snow shoeing adventure and have the most incredible scratch made tuscan soup prepared! Perfection! Every meal was better than the last, and I have never felt better from eating so much goodness. Before we got to the lodge they asked if we had any restrictions, and is there anything we like and dislike. In short, you are in for a treat! Probably the best food in Finland! That is not a joke! 4) Adventure and Beauty: It was literally the most gorgeous setting you can ever dream of. I said to Anna and Heikki that if every person on this planet could see what we saw, this would be a better world! The sunrise and sunsets were incredible! The valley where the river flows through was magical! And the stillness was from something out of this world... Everyday Heikki had an activity planned. Cross Country skiing, Snow Shoeing, Ice Fishing, and Snow Mobile Adventure. It was incredible! They took care of everything! We felt safe, and always comfortable in everything we did! 5) Health and Wellness: One morning we all participated in a meditation circle which was so enlightening! The stresses of living in a huge city, take a toll on your mind and honestly sitting with my brother, Anna and Heikki relieved so much un needed pressure from my mind! You can't duplicate it anywhere... The Sauna was the icing on the cake! They built a sauna in the middle of Lapland, that was incredible! Every day Heikki would get the wood going, and it was the best experience you could ask for. After sitting in the sauna for some time we would jump into the snow, and it was just purifying... And finally Anna and Heikki were the best hosts you could ask for! They both made us feel like we were at home! Like there was nothing to worry about, except having a great time! To finish this long review, because I couldn't write less and wanted to write more I will say that "Into the wild" is the best kept secret in Finland and honestly all of Scandinavia! I've stayed in places all around the world, as has my brother and this was one of the places that will be in our hearts and minds forever! We are already planning our next trip! Thanks for everything Anna and Heikki!

We visited during winter but seeing the summer photos in their FB page made me want to go back again! Apologies for the very late review but please know that we are always very happy and proud of our experience in your cabin :) It was a very unique holiday coming from a tropical country. Untouched nature, pure bliss, calm mountains, and the peaceful energy Anna and Heikki passed on to us. Really appreciate that everything was taken care of, from transportation to amazing meals to fun activities. Even the universe treat us so well because right after our dinner, Aurora Borealis did a fantastic show for us for two nights! More power to you Anna and Heikki and we really hope we can visit you again!

avatar Relaxing and wonderful long weekend outdoors but with a style!

We had an amazing four day trip Into The Wild at the end of July. It was our first trip in Lapland during the summer time. Even despite of the fact that the weather could have been little bit better and there could have been fewer mosquitos (a positive matter in Finland is that the mosquitos are not dangerous!) we enjoyed our stay. It is a wonderful feeling to spend the day outdoors and just enjoy the fresh air and nature without a hurry anywhere. After the Finnish sauna and delicious dinner, you basically don't need anything else than a good night sleep. We definitely started to think whether we should come again and experience the wilderness also during the winter time!

avatar A family adventure in the wilderness

Heikki and Anna were the most amazing hosts I have met so far, with a special feeling that we had known each other for years. We wanted an experience of the pristine wilderness in Lapland and couldn't expect better. Heikki and Anna know how to provide luxury comfort while still away from civilization. It took us 1 hour off road on a 6 wheeler on a path that is only used by them to finally reach the cabins. The main cabin is decorated with exquisite taste and has all the comfort you would wish for. We all loved the sauna every evening and the dips in the freezing river to refresh! The daily walks were beautiful and children loved spotting all the reindeers around and having a delicious picnic with a view and a little fire. Their Husky dog, Duffe became our kids best friend and we now have a little dog teddy in the house with the same name. Finally, we can only praise our great hosts and particularly Anna for her exquisite Finnish cuisine. I have come back to Paris with some great recipes we can now enjoy with Friends. I will conclude by saying that this adventure was something very important for our kids (2, 7 and 15) as an eye opener on the need to protect pur beautiful planet. We are now definitely convinced we should come back in winter with a group of friends. To Anna and Heikki, thank you for the serenity and kindness

Are you looking to get away from “it all”? Are you looking for a break with a difference? Look no further. “Into the Wild” is an amazing experience that combines relaxation with the exertions of the great outdoors. I was not entirely sure what to expect when I arrived. I had contacted my host, Heikki, to enquire about what I should bring with me and what clothes would be appropriate for late autumn in Finnish Lapland. I was apprehensive about whether I would over-do it or under-do it. I tried to do my web research on Lapland in Google and Trip Advisor but despite Heikki’s clear advice, I was still a bit nervous when I got off the plane in Ivalo. Heikki was waiting at the airport and drove us about 2 hours north east of Ivalo airport to the town of Karigasniemi. From there we changed from the SUV to an off-road ATV and picked up Anna on the way. I had been told what to expect about this but was not ready for the 12 km journey across the Lapland moors. I was expecting a farm road or something similar but the uniqueness of this experience started already from here. This is the only way to reach the cottage until the snows arrive, then snow mobiles adds another dimension to the transport. The beautiful autumn colours through a forest track open up into moorland and unbroken hillside revealed the ground colours of late “ruska”. It was here that I started to think, this would not be the normal holiday but something really different. I had hopes of seeing all sorts of wildlife and wasn’t disappointed when we saw a Golden Eagle while we were crossing the hillside on the way to the cottage. When we arrive at the cottage and outbuilding area, I was again surprised to find these there were so modern, in contrast to the surrounding nature. The layout is modern and furnishings also modern but the difference of running water from the nearby stream and electricity from a generator gave the clear feeling we were off the grid. It would be difficult not to immediately feel at home in such a place. The location combined with hospitality of the hosts make it so welcoming and relaxing that you can feel the pressures of the world falling off your shoulders. At this time of year, there was no snow yet. So we spent our days hillwalking across the Lapland wide open landscape. The weather was favourable with great visibility to the Norwegian mountains in the distance and the closer red and golden vegetation. Truly fresh air and plenty walking creates the best combination for appetite . The food for the whole 3 days was just excellent. Breakfast each morning, camp-fire packed lunches during out walks and evening dinners by candlelight in the main cottage. All of these provided by the hosts and prepared with great skill, love and attention to detail. Delicious home-cooked meals better than restaurant quality. All the daily activities were guided by Heikki and Anna, so no need to worry that I would get lost in this vast outdoor wilderness. A sauna each evening before dinner in a real Finnish sauna. A couple of glasses of wine with my meal. Fading autumn sunlight. 3 conditions that made me forget about my sleep problems back home and have the most restful 3 nights I can remember in the last 15 years. Bliss !! Getting away from it all really happens and has a positive effect on the mind and then that filtered through to my body. Wonderful. Just heaven! There were some reports that the Northern Lights would be visible in the wee small hours but due to my luxury sleep, I was not willing to even get out of my bed to go and look. As it turns out, I made the right decision as cloud cover was just a bit too much. Autumn was wonderful and I can only imagine the beauty and change that comes with the snow covered fjells in the hard Lapland winter. Maybe worth a try next time  I can thoroughly recommend Into the Wild for those of you who would like to experience something different and get in touch with nature. Wonderful. Thanks Heikki and Anna <3

avatar Magicial and just pure relaxation

This was a birthday surprise for my husband - who had no idea where we were going until we were at the airport. Arriving to the cabin, sparkiling in candlelight after a 50 minute Snowmobile ride at 11pm whilst the snow fell was magical. The magic accompanied us for the 4 nights we spent here - we could of stayed longer! Relaxing in the cabin with the fire burning and the candles flickering, relaxing in the woodheated sauna and the relaxation room, again with romantic candlelight was heavenly! We were lucky to join Anna & Heikki for their first ski of the season and went cross-country skiing with them on all 3 days. 3 days in which we headed always in a different direction - the Wilderness was beautiful, quiet, still and magical. The light soft and sometimes glowing! Spotting reindeer, moose tracks and birds - what more could you ask for? Making a campfire and cooking reindeer sausages, whilst drinking coffee & eating chocolate, it only got better! We were very lucky and saw the Northern lights on 3 evenings, with the first evening being absolutly specatular! Lovely Anna & nature man Heikki and of course Duffe their beautiful husky made us so welcome, within a few hours we felt we were visiting with friends and had already been there for days. The food was home-cooked and delicious and perfect portions! This place was so beautiful and so perfect, that it actually made me cry on the 2nd day - such an overwhemling feeling of peacefulness! Thank you both so much. We hope to welcome you both to our home one day.

We flew from Helsinki for a long weekend Into the Wild. Trip was planned by my fiance. It was unforgettable, something I couldn't imagine. We saw mountain birch trees, willow grouses, midnight moonlight, sunrise and set. The mountain brook calmed our minds, candles kept hopes up and our hosts we're friendly and very hospitable. We had among many other things burgers made in a fireplace, and a delicious reindeer soup. Hurraa! We're keeping our hopes up for a second visit. Thank you big times Heikki and Anna. And Duffe, we miss you too. Regards, Tomi ja Pia

Have you ever felt the deep longing in your heart to find a magical, untouched, pristine place, a safe haven from your stressful, mundane everyday life, where you can truly feel at home? Well I had, and from the moment I entered Anna's and Heikki's wooden cabin, time has stopped and I entered another realm, where magic is real and you are surrounded by white serenity. We arrived to the wilderness in style: Heikki took us on a snowmobile ride, late at night, with shimmering stars and dancing northern lights above our heads. Then, deep in the heart of the winter wonderland, we spotted warm lights coming from a magical cottage, just like in the fairy tales of our childhoods. Anna waited for us with hot glögi (amazing Finnish winter drink) amongst candlelights and the sound of crackling fire. From that moment on, our week was spent in a magical haze: we went on skiing in the winter wonderland, snowshoeing in the knee-deep snow, we had a fire camping in the middle of the wilderness, eating raindeer burgers in the barbecue hut, watching amazing northern lights and zillions of stars above our heads... I could write a novel about this experience. Anna and Heikki gave us so much warmth, friendliness, deep, insightful conversations, and a wonderful routine to our days. We had true Finnish sauna every day - stepping out from the sauna with a towel around you, and watching the Aurora above your head is an experience to remember forever! Anna is an undercover Michelin star chef, who surprised us with delicious, heavenly meals everyday, and Heikki knows everything that there is to know about the wilderness and the rugged style of life up north. And of course, Duffe, the loving, cute, smart and very friendly husky companion who will always bring a smile to your face. If you consider going here, please, do yourself a favour and don't consider it anymore: just do it. It will be the most magical experience of your life. I promise.

avatar The most rewarding trip

According to the 7 days 6 nights experience in " Into the wild", there are a few pearls I have to share: 1. This is NOT a hotel you are provided at the check-in reception a set of keys to a room/cabin for a couple of days and are requested to return by a given time of the day of departure. 2. This is NOT a hotel where you will be handed a list of activities with certain price which you have to book in advance to ensure the availability. 3. This is NOT a hotel where you would be given a map of local area with highlighted tourist attractions, famous restaurants and souvenir shops. You don't find those in " Into the Wild". And yet, The hosts Heikki& Anna (& Duffe the husky )gave the warmest treat and led you into a way of life in Lapland. We are provided delicious Lapish cuisine, traditional Finnish sauna with cold beer every nights, snow mobile trips, snowshoeing, off country skiing, BBQ in the snow, chatting with most genuine and easy-going hosts. Basically, I stopped my day-to-day brain activities and switched to the reception mode and let them carry from there, and came out refresh. The following are the recommendations: 1. If you are tired of city life and want to take a breath for serenity before diving back into city (like me, and probably many of the guests) , do come. 2. If you want to reset your life goals, meditate, or any sort of soul searching. This is the perfect place. 3. If you are a writer lacking new inspiration, you can spend days writing in the cabin. 4. If you love trekking, off-track skiing, snowshoeing, nature, animals, mountain, changes of the climate, geography. This is a must-be place. 5. If you are a photographer, seriously, do not miss this spot of Lapland. Almost forgot, the Northern light!! I come from a big city where stars are like the protected species. Can you imagine something makes shooting stars so small. Yes, you got it, it's the Northern light. If you come on the right time, no guarantee of course, but a very good chance you will see it. Countless stars and shooting stars and milky way were just the background picture. We saw the light on the beginning 3 days. It was indeed breathtaking. Conclusion: Just come, give yourself to Heikki and Anna, and for at least 3 or 4 days, otherwise you will regret not asking for more day offs on the departure day. Only thing you need to do is to make the time and mind free.

My husband, our two daughters and I visited ' into the wild ' for one week in Febuary. It was one of the most wonderful weeks of our lives! Anna and Heikki are perfect hosts and unique people. The accommodation is beautiful, the scenery enchanting and Duffe so sweet! Every day we spent a lot of time outside and we explored the area with our cross country skis. In the evening we enjoyed the sauna, had fantastic meals and nice and inspiring conversations with our hosts. Although our luggage has been lost on the flight, we have never missed anything! Even -35 °c feel warm and cosy in the company of Anna and Heikki. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience!

For anyone looking for a Lapland/arctic circle nature experience that is totally unlike anything else out there, then this could be for you. We came across Into the Wild and were intrigued by what was on offer. Reading the reviews it seemed like it could be a really special place, and we decided to go for it! Previous reviews explain far more eloquently how this holiday experience is about as far removed from a hotel check-in than you could possibly imagine - which suited us just fine. We wanted to have a lapland experience without 'being processed' by a package or a holiday company, a schedule, or fellow holiday-makers for that matter! In fact I took my watch off upon arrival and only put it back on when leaving. If somebody asked me the time - the answer was 'who cares'?! It might be time for skiing, or sledging, or the sauna or a BBQ, or whatever... but the clock became irrelevant. Heikki and Anna are two of the loveliest people you could ever meet and are the perfect hosts. You arrive as paying customers and leave as friends. We made the smart move of booking a whole week and loved every minute. As a family of 4 with two teenagers, it was a chance to have a digital detox and enjoy hanging out as a family together - learning to cross-country ski, or going off and making vertical sledging runs in waist-deep snow, or taking some shovels and making a snow cave. Or going 'out for lunch' even further north, making a fire and cooking sausages and brewing coffee, then getting dropped off half way back and skiing home solo with only skidoo tracks to follow and nothing else for miles around! Or tracking and trailing red fox, wolverine (yes, really), reindeer, moose and willow grouse - all of which we did in a morning. You make of this experience what you will. Heikki and Anna facilitate and share their patch of wilderness with generosity and grace. Last word for Duffe the Husky... a beautiful and fun-loving creature. You are greatly missed, my friend. This trip was for family-time and memory-making which will last a lifetime.

We had a fantastic time with Heikke and Anna and Duffe at their wilderness cabin. Everything was lovely - from the excitement of the airport pick up and getting dressed for snowmobile travel, lovely food prepared every day, relaxed company and exciting adventures outdoors. We were blessed with two amazing evenings of aurora display, learned lots about Finland, went skiing, for picnics, and dug an ice cave. Even the failed ice fishing attempt (too early in season) was fun. Our hosts took care of everything. Would highly recommend to others.
