    Lapwings - Deer

What could be better than spotting red squirrels, lapwings, house martins and geese in your private garden? Well, spotting them from the bubbling warmth of a hot tub for one. This 18th century home sits in glorious Perthshire countryside in the hamlet of Monzie. It’s a seven-minute drive to the nearest shops, pubs and coffee shops in idyllic Crieff. The surrounding countryside is home to winding walks (some from your doorstep) where you can spot deer and red kites, cycling trails, fishing and golfing. Though you may just want to stay in your secluded country paradise, playing croquet on the lawn, soaking in the hot tub or enjoying a barbecue in the sun. Inside, you’ll find several spots for the group to spread out – curled up with a book in the sunny conservatory, perched by the crackling fire in the main lounge, playing table football in the games room or perhaps even tinkling a tune on the upright piano in the dining room. The kitchen...More Details

    The Tallest Tower

While the idea of staying in a castle sounds rather splendid, they do tend to be rather large places and if you're only a small group, it's easy to get overwhelmed. The solution, then, is to simply stay in the best section, as is the case with this penthouse apartment inside Dunksey Castle. Built at the turn of the twentieth century for industry magnate and Member of Parliament Charles Lindsay Orr Ewing, there are some original features to be found inside, such as a cast-iron bathtub now filled with plants, baronial fireplaces and salvaged mirrors. However, the rest of the living quarters are thoroughly modern. with plant-themed artwork, velvet furnishings and plush rugs. The master bedroom is particularly spectacular with the bay windows, four-poster bed and bathtub in the corner. It's possible to see the sea and the village of Portpatrick from here, and it only takes twenty minutes on foot to reach these. Elsewhere on the estate, ther...More Details

    Upon the Fields

Sensational countryside vistas steal the show at this barn home set in 25 acres of Aberdeenshire wilds fringing Dunecht. With a log-burning fire to curl up beside in winter months and vast lawns outside for long summer days, there are plenty of reasons to linger at this home. But when you're ready to explore, Deeside, Strathdon, and the Cairngorms National Park are all within driving distance. Aberdeen Airport is just a few minute's drive away, too, when it's time to bid Scotland cheerio. *Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you but must be kept under strict control as there are livestock and horses in the adjacent fields.*This home sleeps ten guests, with the last two guests sharing a double sofa bed in the living space. We think this bed is better suited to children sharing or short stays.*If you’re travelling as a larger group, there is an adjacent lodge on the farm grounds that can accommodate up to twenty guests.*While the wider...More Details

    Shepherd's Watch

Sitting high on a hilltop overlooking Lauderdale, this cottage escape is in the blissfully quiet lowland countryside. Stepping outside, you’ll hear is the faint bleat of sheep from the farm nearby and cheep of birds in the ancient trees surrounding the cottage. Once a shepherd’s cottage, the old stone walls whisper of history, but inside it’s been restored to cosy modernity. A living room in rich forest green invites you to leave your wellies by the door and put your feet up at the end of the day. The country-style kitchen has everything you need to cook yourself, and there’s a restaurant at Carfraemill Hotel, a three-minute drive or twenty-minute walk away. The idyllic village of Lauder is an eight-minute drive away where you’ll find local galleries, coffee shops and a village deli, or make the forty-minute drive to Edinburgh for a day in the city. *You’ll want a car to explore further afield – there’s off-road parking provided*The co...More Details

    Cairngorm Charm

In a former life, this cottage was home to railway workers back in the early 1900s. Since then, it's had a complete transformation into a romantic hideaway, while still retaining much of its traditional charm. The kitchen echoes this home's industrial past, with polished concrete worktops and burr elm shelving giving it a historic feel, while the Edwardian table is a fantastic place to gather and share a homemade meal. Outside, you'll find a private garden and wooden deck, where you can fire up the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco feast as you gaze over the Insh Marshes across to the incredible landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park. Don't forget your binoculars, because you also have a great view of both the nearby RSPB bird reserve and the train line – both birdwatchers and trainspotters will be delighted. There are several paths of varying difficulty close by, meaning that whether you want an invigorating hike or a gentle stroll, t...More Details

    The Horticulturalist

Each season brings a new vista to the sprawling, 2000-acre estate this home is set on. Spring brings carpets of bluebells to the forest walks, winter sees snowdrops poking their heads through the undergrowth and in the summer, rhododendrons burst onto the scene in magenta and crimson. Back in the day, this grand stone cottage was set aside for the estate’s gardener and the decor leans into the horticultural theme with a stunning mural of ferns, forest and foxes in the living room. Floral patterned rugs sit on the hardwood floor, and faux fur blankets on tufted leather sofas keep the living room feeling cosy on cold nights. Get a fire crackling in the grate when the temperature drops. The kitchen is designed for farmhouse-style cooking with a big range cooker in the centre. It’s the decor that really grabs your attention though, with a handful of plates and vintage posters adorning the duck-egg-blue walls. Outside you’ll find a huge priv...More Details

    Under The Camellia Tree

Tucked away in the grounds of a 2,000-acre coastal estate, this quaint cottage and its enchanting surrounding are plucked from the pages of a storybook. Inside, the home oozes elegance with plush fabrics and romantic cherry blossom hues. When we stayed, we were smitten with the Japanese rice-paper screen, mother-of-pearl headboard and the underfloor heating that kept our toes toasty after long yomps through the grounds. While the kitchen is fully stocked with accoutrements for rustling up your favourite dinners, call upon your host’s head chef to deliver a Michelin-quality meal straight to your table. After a cup of tea in the sunshine on your quiet patio, pull on your walking shoes and explore. You’ll find secret waterfalls, lochs and a maze right on your doorstep. Jump in the car and take the eight-minute drive to Killantringan Lighthouse or if you’re feeling brave, plunge into the brisk Irish Sea at Knock Bay Beach. Return back to yo...More Details

    The Coachman's Dog

A Grade-II listed former stable in the middle of Dunskey Estate, this home is a truly glorious spot. The interior has been restored, but there are lots of features that date back to a century ago, including the wood panelling and fireplace. Elsewhere, there are furnishings in rich colours, antiques dotted about the rooms and a hand-painted mural in the bedroom, which all work together for a boutique feel. Outside, we are smitten with the charming cobbled courtyard with seating, potted plants and access to a private walled garden. Beyond the home's boundaries lies a wealth of natural attractions on the estate to discover, from two lochs and a pair of waterfalls to three beaches and plenty of walking routes along a stretch of craggy coastline. There's even a maze on the grounds if you have an afternoon going spare. The village of Portpatrick can be reached in twenty minutes on foot, as well. *There's a short flight of steps in the home, ...More Details

Only a stone’s throw away from Little Loch Broom, this breathtaking home in the Scottish highlands is an absolute celebration of peace and tranquillity. Embrace the seclusion as you sit out early morning, admiring the views with a cup of freshly-brewed coffee. Meals can also be taken out on the little picnic-style bench, because believe us when we say, you’re going to want as much time as possible here enjoying the magic of simply being present in the space. Watch mist dissipate, clouds roll across the sky to cast shadows on the loch, and when the infamous Scottish weather drives you inside, well, you’ll still have floor-to-ceiling windows through which to keep that connection with the rugged beauty outside. With marble, wood, texture, and a lot of detail, this home not only feels modern, but it somehow retains the charm of a log cabin, albeit more luxurious, and the warmth that comes with it, making this feel like a home away from home...More Details

    The Laird's Garden

Featuring on “most stylish stays in the UK” lists, this 1960s home sits within acres of walled gardens, landscaped in the 18th century and built by Napoleonic prisoners of war. Mid-century on the outside, the interior is an ode to decadent manor homes with a vast library of books, oil paintings of the Dalrymple family and collections of private artefacts that should be in a museum. You won’t find any “don’t touch” signs though – guests are encouraged to pick fruit and veg from the kitchen garden, rack up a game of snooker in the games room and make use of the grand fireplaces with wood from the neighbouring forest provided. The coastal golf town of North Berwick is a ten-minute drive away and you can practice your pitching on the golf pitching range in the garden. *Most of this home is on ground level with wide doors so may be suitable for those with limited mobility*In a remote location, having a car is recommended and there is plenty...More Details

Walking trails and towering munros are on your doorstep and the outdoor activity haven of Aviemore is just a five-minute drive away. The exterior of this cottage is as traditional as it gets, with a white-stone facade and slate-grey roof like the crofters’ cottages of old. It gets a little more modern inside with comfy leather sofas and mod-cons in the kitchen, but the brass bedframes, free-standing bathtub and crackling wood-burning in the living room are all about that cottagecore aesthetic. Life of Riley

Part of an Edwardian castle with two thousand acres of grounds surrounding, this apartment lets you embrace the life of the aristocracy, just on a slightly smaller scale. Many of the original features remain, such as the stripped-back blond hardwood floor and the bespoke Art Deco spiral staircase, and there are a few antique pieces, like the Persian rug, the range of beds and the upcycled wood-burner stove. That being said, the interior feels thoroughly modern and is a lovely place to return to after being a long day in the great outdoors. There's a lot to discover within the grounds of the estate, from waterfalls and lochs to beaches and walled gardens. Perhaps best of all, it's possible to get meals cooked by the castle's 3AA-Rosette head chef delivered to your front door, as well as personalised bouquets from the in-house florist. *There's plenty of room for parking on the premises*Toiletries made with ingredients grown on the estat...More Details

    The Baron on the Hill

Covering an impressive 1800 acres of moorland just for hiking, the sheer scale of the estate is enough to make it feel majestic without the towering rise of the baronial-style home itself. When both come into view together on the winding drive up to the house, it’s breathtaking. And stepping into the home is a similar experience – take in the mix of chandeliers, fireplaces, and four poster beds. It’s stately, but with plenty of opportunity for relaxation. Whether that’s sinking into the sofa after stoking the fireplace, or wrapping up and walking the moors on a crisp morning. Perhaps it’s luxuriating in a bubble bath with a glass of prosecco, or cooking up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen. Regardless, this home is willing to give whatever you need to take away from your holiday. Wander down to Dunnet Bay and the village, but whatever you do, don’t forget to stop off at the world-famous Rock Rose gin distillery. For a pub lunch, you’...More Details

    Fit for a Queen

On the banks of a secluded loch near Aboyne, this beautiful cabin comes with a beautiful story. It was originally built in the 1920s by Viscountess Cowdray, a close friend of Queen Mary. Choosing it as the perfect spot between her home and the royal estate at Balmoral, it was built so the two women could regularly meet and take tea by the water together. Sitting here, in the peaceful Aberdeenshire countryside, it's not hard to see what attracted them. The setting, overlooking the loch, and surrounded by tall pines is a truly inspirational one, and whether you're here in the middle of summer or the winter, the views from the home are second to none. Despite its rustic charm and rough Scots pine exterior, the cabin has been renovated to create a luxurious home, with antique furnishings, a log fire and vintage art. There's a modern country-style kitchen with everything you could need and two comfortable bedrooms. And who wouldn't fall in l...More Details

    Forest's Edge

Sitting on the southwest coast of Scotland, this home provides the perfect escape for families and friends. Think squashy sofas, a cosy cottage-like kitchen and a crackling fireplace to unwind with a wee dram at the end of the day. The woods immediately beside the lawns close to Corsewall House and just a few minutes’ walk from the cottage are a dedicated children’s fun zone. The private garden provides a lush playground for children (and adults) complete with an 18-metre zip wire, a climbing frame, a slide as well as three swings. It is the perfect spot for parents to relax with a spread of local foods and perhaps a drop or two to drink while the kids play – picnic anyone? And if that wasn't enough, the kids can also bounce their hearts out on the 14-foot trampoline by the edge of the lawns. There's even a campfire area in the woods for toasting marshmallows. Beyond the site, the local area also offers plenty to keep the whole crowd bu...More Details

    The Old Mill House

This rustic, 17th-century mill has been turned into a luxury nook in the Scottish Borders. You can see the old but still operating waterwheel, contrasted against the roses and flowering lavender on the old miller's house next door. A wood-burning stove sits are the heart of the home, keeping things cosy warm in winter (your host will leave detailed instructions on how to light it so you’ll become an expert). The classy, aubergine-purple kitchen is well stocked with artisan crockery and everything you need to cook up a holiday meal. The mill’s original mezzanine floor has been converted into a plush bedroom with a roll-top bath. Heading outside, you’ll find a small, private woodland garden with table and chairs. Old Milton

Once the country playground of lairds and ladies, this former hunting lodge sits in the untamed wilderness of the Cairngorms. Acres and acres of grounds are home to a fishing loch with its own jetty, a professionally maintained 9-hole golf course and tennis courts. After a day of action and adventure in the great outdoors, there’s nothing better than soaking in the bubbling hot tub on the patio. Unwind with a single malt by the fire in the sitting room, or opt for an evening in the formal lounge fit for a duke, with its grand piano and wood-panelled walls. With stained-glass windows and a vaulted, beamed ceiling, the dining room reminds us of a church – a beautiful spot to gather the group for a decadent meal. The kitchen’s four-door Aga means country-style feasts are on the menu. There’s more to this home than pure opulence and Victorian splendour. It’s the small details that tie the design to the landscape, like hand-made staircases a...More Details
